We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Ecologist to work on a broad variety of projects. You will play a key role in delivering ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies across a range of projects, from infrastructure and development to conservation and biodiversity enhancement.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

Conducting Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), and protected species surveys (e.g., bats, GCN, reptiles, badgers).

Preparing high-quality ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and mitigation plans.

Supporting project management tasks including client liaison and scheduling.

Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, planning policy, and best practice guidance.

Liaising with stakeholders including clients, planning authorities, and conservation bodies.

Essential Requirements

The ability to complete PEA’s on small to medium size green and brownfield sites independently and is confident in the use of the UK habitat classification system.

Able to undertake Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments on small to medium size green and brownfield sites independently using the Statutory metric.

Demonstrable ability to provide clear, succinct and robust technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, and protected species surveys.

Experience with GIS mapping and data analysis.

A clear understanding of relevant UK wide environmental /ecological policy and legislation.

Desirable Requirements

A Degree in Ecology or similar

Membership of CIEEM or working towards it.

Ecological Clerks of Works (ECoW) experience
