In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
Earthworks Supervisor
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Earthworks Supervisor to oversee and manage all aspects of earthworks operations on construction sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of earthworks operators and laborers, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality completion of excavation, grading, and other earthworks activities in compliance with safety regulations, company standards, and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision and Leadership:
Oversee and lead earthworks teams on-site, including operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
Assign tasks and monitor work progress to ensure timelines and quality standards are met.
Provide guidance, training, and support to junior team members.
Site Management:
Coordinate and manage day-to-day earthworks activities, including excavation, grading, trenching, and other site preparation tasks.
Ensure proper allocation and use of equipment and materials, maintaining a focus on efficiency and minimizing downtime.
Monitor and maintain project schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
Safety and Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
Conduct regular safety briefings, inspections, and toolbox talks to promote a culture of safety on-site.
Ensure that all earthworks equipment is regularly inspected, maintained, and operated safely and efficiently.
Quality Control:
Ensure that all work meets or exceeds project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular inspections of earthworks operations, resolving any issues or non-conformances promptly.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily reports and progress updates.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments, including engineering, procurement, and project management, to ensure seamless coordination of earthworks tasks with other site activities.
Communicate effectively with contractors, and other stakeholders to address concerns and provide updates.
Equipment and Resource Management:
Oversee the operation of heavy earthworks equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, graders, and trucks.
Ensure that equipment is maintained, serviced, and operated in compliance with safety standards.
Manage the efficient use of materials and resources on-site to avoid wastage and minimize costs.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
At least 5 years Proven experience in a supervisory role within earthworks or civil construction and or certification or relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
At least 3-5 years in experience in a senior role within construction project/mining.
Strong knowledge of earthworks techniques, equipment, and construction processes.
Experience with managing a team and providing on-the-job training.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot on-site issues.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with team members, contractors, and project stakeholders.
Valid driver’s license and appropriate certifications for operating heavy machinery (e.g., Excavator, Bulldozer, Grader, etc.).
Ability to interpret and follow construction plans, specifications, and drawings
Working Conditions
Position based at the OKO Project site.
Work Schedule – 14 days on site /7 days off site
Transportation, accommodations, and meals provided on site.
Compensation Package
2-year contract for the construction period, with the possibility of a permanent position once the mine is in operation.
