Pay Rate: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
Hours: Monday - Friday
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Camp Director and the Early Childhood Manager, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising and engaging children appropriately along with planning, organizing, and implementing day to day indoor, outdoor and water activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervise children ranging from 3 years of age to 8 years of age.
Plan activities for play, interaction, and engagement of the children.
Maintain a commitment to the development of each child’s self-esteem by providing a safe, fun, and nurturing environment through age appropriate activities, crafts, and games.
Be present and on time to camp every day.
Play, interact, and engage the children in morning and/or afternoon water play and daily splash pad fun, unless the temperature is below 70 degrees or weather is inclement.
Displays the ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
Attend all weekly staff meetings and other required training/events that are scheduled after normal working hours.
Be enthusiastic during work hours – you are a role model.
Performs the job safely and uses redirection to dispel unwanted behavior, also is in compliance with district policies, procedures, and work safety rules.
Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
Maintain positive, calm and encouraging voice levels with children, in all situations
Support your Director and assist in whatever responsibilities and activities they might ask you to do.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Current Food Handler Certification.
Valid First Aid, CPR and AED (Pediatric and Adult) Certifications
Must be able to work the entire duration of the summer.
Know developmentally appropriate activities for the age of the children.
Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
Effective leadership skills.
Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma.
Experience working with children.
