The Opportunity
We are looking for a high energy and motivated Early Childhood Educator to join our 0-6 team.  This position will provide support with the day-to-day operations of the EBB programs and will carry out responsibilities in a wide variety of areas.

The ideal candidate will have worked as Early Childhood Educator, preferably in the not-for-profit sector for a minimum of one year. We are looking for a high energy, can do person, who thrives in a fast paced environment and can handle changing priorities with ease and work well independently.

HOURS OF WORK: Temporary, full- time at 34 hours per week
SALARY RANGE: CSSEA Wage Grid 10, Step 2 - $26.83 hourly
BENEFITS: Not Eligible
VACATION: As per ESS policies

Key Duties and Responsibilities
•    Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques. Develops daily program schedules that include indoor/outdoor, active/quiet and individual and group activities. 
•    Identifies the abilities, interests and needs of children and develops individualized curriculum based on these. Recommends referrals or additional services or work in consultation with professionals such as behavioural therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists.
•    Attends to the children’s physical needs that may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping. Administers first aid and medication in accordance with established policy.
•    Reports on progress, behaviours and other issues related to children. Complete other program related reports as requested by supervisor
•    Ensures and maintains a healthy and safe playroom environment in which the children can interact. Identifies and removes potential hazards.
•    Communicates with families about children’s growth and development. Requests input from and participation of parents in the development of programs. Confers with parents with regard to unusual or problematic issues. Ensure a family centered approach to childcare.
•    Provides work direction and support to early childhood educator assistants as required.
•    Develop and maintain positive interactions with school administration.
•    Purchase program materials and supplies as required.
•    Maintain confidentiality of all information related to programs, children, parents and staff.
•    Maintain ECE certification by adhering to requirements and guidelines set out by the licensing body. 
•    Perform other related duties as required. 

B.  Qualifications:
1.  Education and Knowledge
•    Early Childhood Education Certificate, plus Special Needs or Infant Toddler / Under Three Certificate.

2.  Training and Experience
•    One (1) year recent related experience 
•    Valid First Aid and CPR

3.  Skills and Abilities
•    Ability to be flexible, resourceful and possess good time management skills.
•    Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, and bending.
•    Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
•    Effective listening and consensus building skills that promote communication and a cooperative approach to problem solving and decision making.
•    Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural environment, independently and as part of a team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines.
•    Ability to maintain professional integrity, boundaries, and confidentiality.
•    Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners.
•    Knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing underrepresented groups including 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous youth and young adults.
•    Knowledge and respect of the diversity of the BC population.

4. Other Information
•    Class 7N or 5 Driver’s License required and use of a personal reliable vehicle
•    Class 4 Driver’s License an asset
