With the launch of new Early Childhood Education (ECE) cohorts in the Kelowna and Vernon regions, Western Community College (WCC) invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the position of ECE Practicum Placement Supervisor.
Position Summary
The Practicum Placement Supervisor in the Early Childhood Education Program shall be appointed by the ECE
Program Manager upon the recommendation of the President and the Dean of Programs. The salary and terms
of employment shall be fixed by the ECE Program Manager upon the recommendation of the Dean and the
President. This position reports to the ECE Program Manager.
The ECE Practicum Placement Supervisor arranges the student's experience and defines activities that will help
meet the objectives of both the student and of the agency/project. The practicum, however, is not meant to burden
the supervisor with extensive supervisory demands but more act as a periodic monitor.
Responsibilities
In addition to the responsibilities outlined in the general faculty job description found in the Faculty Handbook
manual, the Early Childhood Education Practicum Supervisor will:
1. Collaborate with instructors as needed.
2. Provide feedback to improve the learning of the students at work experiences.
3. Ensure that the students are attaining the learning outcomes for the work experiences.
4. Secure work experience sites by sourcing potential work experience partners.
5. Monitor student-host work experiences with site visits at least once every four weeks.
6. Orient students to work experience.
7. Assist students in completing their work experience documentation.
8. Orient staff at host locations to work experience requirements and other college policies as needed.
9. Assist work experience hosts with completing their work experience documentation.
10. Manage and report any issues at the work experience sites
11. Mediate situations as needed.
12. Manage all work experience related policies, procedures and documentation in coordination with the
employment and practice education coordinator.
13. Supervise, assess and revise field experiences within the community sites.
14. Monitor and maintain portions of ECE Alumni eSite.
15. Participate in ECE Advisory Committee.
16. Attend external Early Childhood meetings as requested.
17. Co-facilitate orientation meetings for students prior to their practicum experiences, in conjunction
with the ECE Program Coordinator as requested.
18. Perform other duties as assigned by the ECE Program Coordinator, the Dean of Programs, or as
designated by the President.
Education/ Experience Required
Successful candidates will have the following as a minimum:
• Minimally a diploma in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Care and Education and two (2)
years of full-time supervisory work experience within an Early Childhood setting.
OR
• Ten (10) years of full-time work experience within the Early Childhood Field, including two (2) years
of supervisory experience.
AND
• Member in good standing with the ECE Registry.
• Follow the Code of Ethics as outlined by the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC).
• Ability to travel to multiple locations.
• Sound computer proficiency required especially in Microsoft 365, PowerPoint and database input for
grading. Distance education teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to develop and maintain contacts in the community.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other faculty, staff, work experience hosts.
• Excellent organizational skills with ability to multi-task.
• Ability to complete work in a timely manner with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to exhibit a professional attitude.
Employment Type : Fixed Term Contract
Location: Kelowna or Vernon Ideally
Schedule: March 9, 2026 to December 18, 2026, 21 hours a week
