Position Type: Canada Summer Jobs Contract ( 9 weeks, 30 hours/week)
Salary: $19.00 per hour

Position Summary
The Early Childhood Assistant is responsible for assisting the RECE’s in the delivery of a high quality program support aimed at improving the developmental readiness of children in KCHC early years programs. All programming is to be delivered within the context of the Provincial Pedagogical Framework, including How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and in accordance with the College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Key Responsibilities
Programming
Assist with planning and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum including self-regulation and resiliency building activities for child.
Assist the RECE’s with assessment of children’s social, physical, emotional, cognitive and language learning needs and plan activities to address those needs in both group and individual settings.
Assist with the provision of an inclusive environment with specific planning for children with varying degrees of development.
Assist with the creation of an optimal learning environment by fostering the elect foundations of learning.
Family Support
Assist with the provision of health promotion and child development information on a variety of topics including self-regulation, child development, behaviour and nutrition.
Assist with identifying children who may have developmental challenges
Keep team members informed of children’s progress and maintain records
Administration
Assist with maintaining a stimulating, safe and hygienic program rooms.
Maintain Childcare Act standards as per Ministry requirements as directed by supervisor
Organizational Responsibilities
Promote and demonstrates through understanding of the mission, values, and culture of KCHC.
Complies with all relevant legislation and KCHC policies, including privacy
Supports consistent application and development of KCHC policies and
Supports KCHC’s student and volunteer placement
Promotes awareness of and participation in KCHC
Demonstrated commitment to maintaining competence, continuous learning and quality improvement.
On occasion, performs other temporary duties may be required ie childminding, staff replacement
Basic Education and Experience Requirements
Experience working with children under the age of six
College diploma in Early Childhood Education an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Willingness to learn the Pedagogical Framework
Strong understanding of the strengths and challenges of families, including parenting in communities facing barriers to health. A local understanding of these issues in Kingston strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to being a team player.
Proficiency in the use of computers and relevant software applications.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
Skills with time management, organization, conflict resolution and multi-tasking.
Awareness of, an ability to support, provincial and federal privacy regulations.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.
On occasion be available on short notice
Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license, valid insurance coverage and access to a vehicle as this position has several locations of work throughout
Ability to work outside normal business hours if Work during both regular and extended hours in locations identified by KCHC.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification or willing to obtain.
Up to date immunizations and TB test.
Current and satisfactory Criminal and Vulnerable Persons Check.
