Job Description
We are looking for a Driver Trainer to lead hands-on driver training within a commercial trucking environment, with a strong focus on real-world execution and compliance.
This role operates within an onsite fleet and requires direct involvement in training drivers on equipment, safety procedures, and operational standards—not just classroom instruction. The position is critical to improving driver performance, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and reducing operational risk. This is a field-based role with full ownership of driver readiness, behavior, and certification standards.
Responsibilities
• Deliver hands-on driver training including trailer hookups, backing, maneuvering, and real-world driving scenarios
• Conduct driver orientation programs focused on safety, compliance, and company procedures
• Evaluate driver performance in live environments and provide corrective coaching as needed
• Ensure drivers meet all certification and compliance requirements prior to operating independently
• Reinforce DOT regulations, safety protocols, and driver behavior expectations during training
• Ride along with drivers to assess real-time performance and identify gaps in execution
• Maintain training records, certifications, and compliance documentation for all drivers
• Collaborate with safety leadership to address incidents, retraining needs, and performance issues
• Support ongoing driver development through refresher training and performance improvement plans
Requirements:
• 3+ years of experience in commercial trucking, fleet operations, or driver training
• Prior experience conducting trucking orientation or hands-on driver training required
• Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations and driver compliance standards
• Ability to physically demonstrate and train on equipment (trailers, hookups, etc.)
• CDL license preferred or prior professional driving experience strongly desired
• Must have real-world trucking experience (classroom-only training backgrounds will not be considered)
• Experience evaluating driver performance in live environments, not just simulated settings
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coach and correct driver behavior effectively
Benefits:
Compensation: $52,000 – $62,000 base salary.
Benefits may include health insurance, retirement plan options, paid time off, and other company-sponsored programs.
