Position Overview
The Driver Recruiter is responsible for full-cycle recruitment of CDL A drivers (Company Drivers and Owner Operators) across OTR, Regional, and Port Drayage operations.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely driver staffing to support operational demands while maintaining compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations and internal hiring standards. The Driver Recruiter partners closely with Operations, Safety, and HR to attract, screen, onboard, and retain qualified drivers aligned with company performance and safety expectations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
Manage full-cycle recruiting process for CDL A Drivers (OTR, Regional, Port shuttle, Owner Operator).
Develop and maintain recruiting pipelines through job boards (e.g., Indeed, Tenstreet), referrals, staffing agencies, and industry networks.
Screen applications and conduct structured interviews to assess experience, safety record, and job fit.
Maintain a consistent flow of qualified candidates to meet weekly and monthly hiring targets
2. Compliance & Documentation
Ensure all applicants meet DOT and FMCSA qualification requirements.
Coordinate background checks, MVR reviews, PSP reports, drug testing, and clearinghouse verification.
Maintain accurate driver qualification files (DQ files) in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Ensure onboarding documentation is completed accurately and timely.
3. Coordination with Operations
Partner with Dispatch and Operations Managers to understand lane needs, CPM structure, and equipment requirements.
Align recruitment efforts with operational workforce planning and business growth initiatives.
Support driver allocation strategy by recruiting based on lane demand and turnover data.4.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with Operations, Safety, and HR teams to meet fleet seating goals.
Communicate hiring forecasts and pipeline health to leadership.
Support workforce planning initiatives to maintain optimal fleet capacity.
5. Onboarding & Retention Support
Facilitate orientation scheduling and communication with new hires.
Support transition of temporary drivers to permanent W-2 employees when applicable.
Monitor early turnover trends and conduct follow-up engagement with newly hired drivers.
Collaborate with HR on compensation structure updates and incentive communication.
6. Reporting & Metrics
Track and report recruitment KPIs:
Time-to-fill
Cost-per-hire
Source effectiveness
Offer acceptance rate
90-day retention rate
Provide weekly hiring status reports to HR and Operations leadership.
Maintain applicant tracking system (ATS) data integrity.
Qualifications
Required
2–5 years of recruiting experience in transportation or related industry.
Proven experience recruiting CDL-A drivers (OTR, Local, and/or Drayage).
Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
Strong understanding of trucking operations and driver qualification standards.
Excellent communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
Preferred
Experience using ATS and driver recruiting platforms.
Bilingual (Spanish preferred but not required).
High-volume recruiting experience.
Work Schedule and Location
Standard workweek: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Occasional support for after-hours driver onboarding
Primary work location is Savannah, GA.
Occasional travel to Headquarter and branch offices may be required.
