YOUR NEW ROLE:
Next Generation Logistics Companies is looking for a full-time, traveling Dredging Superintendent. As a Dredging Superintendent at NGL Companies, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels and equipment, overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of dredging projects. This role manages and collaborates with not only the internal team, but also subcontractors, and other professionals to ensure all aspects of a project are completed on time and within budget. The Dredging Superintendent must have strong delegation skills, communications skills, organizational skills, and collaboration skills to manage teams and projects simultaneously. Your attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure will be essential in this role.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise all phases of the assigned dredging project(s) from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.
Responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, conduct safety meetings and briefings, identify potential hazards and report accidents or near misses to management.
Review project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
Establish and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders to provide regular project progress reports and resolve issues and conflicts.
Coordinate with surveyors, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other team members.
Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, or other professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, or problems.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages ratios, and proportions to practical field quantity situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at project sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being conducted.
Plan, organize, or coordinate the work activities of others to ensure that goals or objectives of dredging projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
Maintain daily paperwork including field reports, updates, and email correspondence.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
5+ years’ experience managing dredging projects working with hydraulic cutterheads 12 to 24 inches.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol screening. This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to random selection drug and alcohol testing.
The position requires 12-hour workdays 7 days a week.
Experience on Army Corps of Engineers Projects is heavily desired.
Solid understanding of HYPACK hydrographic survey software and USACE Dredging Quality Management Program (DQM)
Experience using a pipe fusion machine.
Willingness to travel and work in remote jobsite locations for extended periods.
Proven record of successfully completing dredging projects on time and within budget.
Strong understanding of project management and negotiation skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
You must have a valid TWIC Card.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
Must be proficient in use of a PC and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, iPad and iPhone.
Must be able to work outside for entire shift in all weather conditions (hot, humid, cold, wet) required.
Able to work independently and interact professionally with managers, team leaders and staff.
Able to prepare and submit clear, concise reports orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.
USACE Construction Quality Management certification a plus
OSHA-10 Certification
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will use sit, use hands, talk/hear; Frequently will reach with hands; Occasionally will stand, walk, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste/smell.
Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift up to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift up to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift up to 50 pounds. Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
