YOUR NEW ROLE:
The Dredge Boatman’s primary duties are operating dredging equipment, maneuvering dredges into position, and transporting crew and supplies between the dredge and shore using crew boats. Supervising crew engaged in dredging operations and verify the depth of excavations to ensure they are made according to requirements. Additionally, inspect dredge equipment regularly and manage the placement of dredged material. This is not a live-on dredge. We provide per diem, and employees are responsible for their lodging and meals.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Dredge Boatman is responsible for operations and maintenance of the boats assigned. Additional duties may include, but will not be limited to, operating other equipment, and/or performing maintenance duties, with the primary focus on safe overall operations of your assigned equipment. This position will be under the direct supervision of the Leverman.
Responsible for operation of the equipment assigned.
Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices
Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures
Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
Secures mooring lines to the dredge, scows, dredge tender, or attending plant
Splices and repairs cables and towing ropes
Loads and unloads materials from the dredge, deck barges, scows, and miscellaneous dredging equipment
Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with the maintenance program.
Keep inventory of spares and consumables.
Ensure equipment is kept in a neat and orderly manner (items where they belong, ropes coiled neatly, interior, and exterior cleaned and painted, etc.)
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
Assists with work on the pontoon line, submerge line, scow, or attending plant
Assists with work on the anchors and spud systems
Performs other duties as assigned by the project site management
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
3 years+ of dredge boatman experience
The position requires 12-hour workdays and occasional weekends, as needed.
Current OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR certifications.
Valid TWIC card.
Knowledge of small motor vessel operations.
Willingness to travel and work in remote jobsite locations for extended periods.
Open water experience
Experience working on large twin-screw vessels
Tender boat operating experience
Maintenance experience
Prior Deckhand experience
Understanding of dredge process
Understanding dredge pipeline work in open water
Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.
Ability to work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision.
Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
Must be reliable and motivated.
Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment, tools, and devices.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record. ·
Must be able to work outside for entire shift in all weather conditions (hot, humid, cold, wet) required.
Must be authorized to work in the US.
Drug screening and background check required.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.
This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. In addition, a Boatman must also be capable of: walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
