Oertel Metal Works is seeking a CAD Drafter to support our engineering and fabrication teams. This role is responsible for transforming design concepts into detailed drawings used for estimating, manufacturing, and fabrication.
Working closely with engineers, estimators, and production teams, the CAD Drafter plays a key role in ensuring designs are accurate, manufacturable, and aligned with project specifications. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical precision, problem-solving, and collaboration in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
Collaborate with estimators, engineers, and project teams to understand project scope and translate design concepts into technical drawings.
Create conceptual sketches and develop them into detailed engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and shop layout drawings.
Ensure drawings meet required specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Revise drawings as project requirements evolve or adjustments are made during fabrication.
Maintain and organize a database of customer drawings and internal fabrication drawings.
Support the engineering and estimating teams with technical documentation used throughout the project lifecycle.
What Makes You Successful in This Role
Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD.
Experience with Inventor, Revit, or other 3D modeling/design software is a plus.
Solid math and geometry skills, including the ability to work with dimensions, angles, curvatures, and tolerances.
Familiarity with steel fabrication or manufacturing environments.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a collaborative team environment.
Education & Experience
Degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Design, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in a CAD Drafter or similar technical design role.
This position works Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm each day, with the option for overtime. The pay range for this position is between $24-$29/hour, based on experience.
