Penn State Construction | Lewistown, PA | Full-Time
Penn State Construction is seeking a skilled Drafter to translate project intent and real-world field conditions into accurate, build-ready drawings and documentation. This role demands a genuine commitment to quality at every stage of the process, from initial project handoff through final production release. Strong attention to detail, clear communication, and disciplined coordination with Project Managers, engineers, and production leadership are essential to preventing rework, reducing field issues, and ensuring every project is set up for successful fabrication and installation.
Responsibilities
Participate in Project Handoffs & Ensure Clear Understanding
Attend project handoff meetings with PMs, engineers, and fabrication leadership.
Review drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to identify gaps or risks.
Ask clarifying questions to confirm design intent and expected deliverables.
Document assumptions, constraints, and drafting requirements before starting work.
Prepare Accurate Submittal Drawings & Documentation
Create accurate submittal drawings based on design intent and project scope.
Follow internal drafting standards and customer specifications throughout.
Perform in-process quality checks to ensure drawings are complete, coordinated, and correct.
Coordinate with PMs to ensure drawings are submitted properly and on time.
Review & Correct Submittals Based on Feedback
Review customer and engineer comments carefully and address all feedback accurately.
Update drawings consistently with requested changes and verify no downstream conflicts are created.
Communicate questions or discrepancies promptly to PMs or engineers.
Conduct Site Visits, Scans & Field Measurements
Perform site visits, 3D scans, and field measurements as required by project scope.
Document field conditions clearly using notes, photos, and reference data.
Identify constraints or conflicts that must be addressed in drawings.
Communicate discrepancies or risks to PMs and production leadership.
Complete Production Drawings & Pre-Production Documentation
Develop full production drawing sets from approved submittals.
Prepare pre-production paperwork including cut lists, material specs, and assembly details.
Perform final quality checks to ensure drawings meet fabrication standards and workflows.
Coordinate with production leadership to resolve open questions before release.
Qualifications
3 to 5 years of AutoCAD/BIM architectural or construction drafting experience.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting & Design Technology, Architecture, or a related field is preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be given equal consideration.
Familiarity with current building codes and construction methods.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and PDF tools.
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Clear, professional communicator who works well across project management, production, and engineering teams.
Valid driver’s license required; occasional site travel expected.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with occasional jobsite visits (20% or less with rare overnight travel).
