About the Role
Sydney Health & Care Services (SHCS) is hiring Disability Support Workers to join our Home Care Team in Wollongong Region.
This is a female-only support worker role due to participant requirements.
Shifts available:
Monday to Friday: 09:00am to 1:00pm – Manual handling for transfers and full comprehensive personal care including incontinence aids
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1:00pm to 4:00pm – Verbal aggression escalating to physical aggression
Thursdays: 1:30pm to 6pm - ADHD and autism behaviours
Sleepover supports: 7 nights – 10:30pm to 6.30am - sleepover and personal care
Tuesday 8:00am – 12:00pm, Friday and Saturday 08:00 am to 10:00am: Personal care, medication administration, light household tasks and community
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 08:00am to 10:00am - Navina Catheter trained
Wednesday 11:30am to 2:30pm, Thursday 10.30am to 1.30pm, Friday 11.30am to 3.00pm and Saturday fortnightly 12pm to 2pm - Community access and domestic duties
What You’ll Be Doing:
Deliver 1:1 supports in the community and at home (ADLs, routines, appointments, community access)
Implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) with proactive, preventative and reactive strategies
Use de-escalation skills and low-arousal communication during distress and escalation
Support participants with mental health deterioration (including paranoia/delusions/disorganised thinking) while maintaining safety
Work confidently in environments where substance use may be present, applying harm-minimisation and professional boundaries
Recognise early warning signs, act quickly, and follow escalation pathways (including contacting emergency services when required)
Complete high-quality documentation: case notes, incidents, observations, and handovers
What we're looking for:
Minimum 1 year experience supporting people with manual handling, personal care, ADHD, Autism and verbal aggression/physical aggression
Demonstrated experience working in environments where verbal and physical aggression is present
Strong de-escalation capability and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Clear understanding of boundaries, duty of care, and safety planning, including managing risk where threats or weapon-related behaviours may arise
Excellent written communication and confidence completing detailed reports
Essentials:
NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain immediately)
National Police Check
First Aid + CPR (current)
Must have a reliable car that is insured and have NSW Driver's License (Provisional is acceptable)
Minimum Cert IV in Disability / Community Services / Mental Health (or equivalent)
Unrestricted Australian work rights
