Shifts: Ongoing morning & afternoon shifts (consistent roster)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced female Disability Support Worker to provide 1:1 in-home support for a participant with acquired brain injury (ABI), mental health complexities, and alcohol dependency.
This is a highly complex and intensive role. The participant’s presentation can fluctuate significantly and may include verbal aggression, intimidation, refusal of support, and heightened emotional escalation, particularly during periods of distress or illness.
This role is best suited to workers who are emotionally regulated, confident with boundaries, and experienced in de-escalation and trauma-informed care.
Please note: Due to documented risks and previous incidents, this role is restricted to female workers only as a genuine occupational requirement for safety.
Key Responsibilities
Provide trauma-informed, respectful 1:1 support in the participant’s home
Support with personal care, hygiene, household tasks, and daily living activities
Respond appropriately to verbal aggression, intimidation, and refusal of support
Use validation, redirection, and low-demand approaches during escalation
Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times
Follow the participant’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan and Welfare Protocol
Accurately document observations, incidents, and behaviours
Escalate safety or wellbeing concerns in line with organisational procedures
About You
This role is not suitable for entry-level workers.
You will have:
Demonstrated experience supporting people with ABI, complex mental health, or behaviours of concern
Strong ability to remain calm during verbal aggression or threatening language
Confidence to disengage appropriately when required for safety
Excellent emotional regulation and resilience
Clear understanding of professional boundaries
Ability to work consistently with the same participant
Essential Requirements
Female support worker (genuine occupational requirement – safety based)
Minimum Certificate III or IV in Disability, Community Services, or equivalent
NDIS Worker Screening Check
National Police Check
First Aid & CPR
Full COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations (as required)
Reliable availability for ongoing, consistent shifts
Highly Desirable
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
CPI / MAPA / PMVA or equivalent behaviour support training
Experience with restrictive practice environments or BSP-guided supports
Strong written documentation skills
