About the role

We are looking for a dynamic Engineering Director for our Hyderabad office to lead multiple engineering teams and drive the growth and development of our technology initiatives at Crunchyroll. We are looking for a visionary leader with experience building and managing engineering teams within fast-paced environments. You will oversee all aspects of our engineering operations, including hiring plans, attrition management, and engineering effectiveness, all while promoting a positive and collaborative culture. You will collaborate with other engineering directors based in the US on a set of key engineering initiatives.

• Site Leadership: Provide strategic leadership to the engineering team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives. Manage the site's growth by overseeing hiring plans and promoting a positive workplace culture.

• Operational Excellence: Drive best practices in engineering effectiveness to ensure high performance and productivity within the team. Develop and manage key performance indicators to measure success.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product management, design, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of engineering efforts with business objectives.

• Culture Building: Foster a culture that prioritizes inclusion, diversity, and a sense of belonging. Implement initiatives that amplify core values and keep employees informed and engaged.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with partners, both internal and external, including senior management and partners.

• Talent Management: Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent. Implement strategies that enhance team performance and engagement while minimizing attrition.

• Project Management: Oversee engineering projects from creation to completion, ensuring delivery and adherence to quality standards. The ownership of project deliverables remains with the leader of the functional team in the US.

In the role of Engineering Site Director, you will report to the VP, Fan Experiences. You will be three days a week in office in Hyderabad.

About You

• You have over 12 years of experience in engineering leadership roles and a proven track record of scaling engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

• You have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

• You have 3+ years of experience as a Director of Engineering.

• You possess a strong technical background, with experience as a software engineer in building large-scale, consumer-facing applications. Experience with AWS services (Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, API Gateway, CloudFront) and knowledge of serverless architecture preferred.

• You have a strong understanding of engineering best practices and the ability to lead a performance-oriented culture.

• You have experience setting up and leading small R&D teams, promoting innovation while effectively challenging engineers on their daily work to maintain high standards.

• You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to engage, influence, and collaborate effectively with diverse partners.

• You are tactical, managing both daily operations and long-term goals.

• You have experience in talent management, recruitment, and retention strategies, including building diverse and inclusive teams.

• You have experience with global operations and familiarity with diverse workforce needs.

• You are a visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit who thrives on the challenge of building something from scratch and scaling it to success.

About the Team

The Fan Experiences Engineering team at Crunchyroll plays a pivotal role in how fans discover, engage, and connect with anime across media and communities. We collaborate extensively with a diverse network of device, payment, and gaming partners to broaden the reach of Crunchyroll's offerings. Our primary goal is to drive growth, open up new acquisition channels, and optimize both the scope and quality of our services.
