We support a wide range of digital payments choices, making transactions secure, simple, smart and accessible. Our technology and innovation, partnerships and networks combine to deliver a unique set of products and services that help people, businesses and governments realize their greatest potential.

Role Overview

The Director of Sustainability, Stakeholder Engagement, leads Mastercard’s external sustainability partnerships and stakeholder engagement to drive customer impact, growth, and program delivery aligned with enterprise sustainability priorities.

Working with account teams, Product, and Business Development, the Director uses sustainability partnerships and programs to strengthen relationships with banking, merchant, technology, funding, and development partners; generate qualified leads; and support commercialization and scaling of sustainability and climate adaptation and resilience offerings led by Impact Strategy.

The role manages strategic NGO relationships, including Conservation International (CI) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), and works with Product to advance the impact and long-term success of the Priceless Planet Coalition (PPC) and Mastercard’s commitment to fud the restoration of 100 million trees by 2030.

The role combines strategy, market development, partnership development, early-stage commercialization, and cross-functional coordination. It also helps represent Mastercard in targeted convenings and sustainability forums to drive measurable environmental, brand, and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Customer & Partner Engagement

Serve as sustainability lead for priority banking, merchant, and technology customers and prospects, partnering with account teams, Product, and Business Development to bring partnerships and programs into customer conversations and support sustainability use cases aligned with Mastercard offerings.
• Opportunity Enablement: Support early-stage sustainability conversations with customers by clarifying priorities, shaping use cases, identifying budgets, and connecting account teams with Product and Business Development partners before handoff.
• Ecosystem Partnerships & Convenings: Leverage Mastercard’s participation in priority sustainability ecosystems and flagship convenings to deepen relationships, surface joint use cases, advance collaboration, and create commercial opportunities and thought leadership around Mastercard sustainability solutions.
• Engagement Tracking & Reporting: Maintain the tracking of customer sustainability engagements to support measurement and alignment with the Impact Dashboard for CIFG&S and MSG QDDs and other reporting. Coordinate with dashboard owners to keep metrics and narratives consistent.

Priceless Planet Coalition

Manage strategic NGO relationships, including Conservation International (CI) and WRI, and partner with Product to advance the impact and long-term success of the Priceless Planet Coalition (PPC).
• Restoration Strategy: Manage relationships with CI, WRI, and other implementation partners to advance restoration of 100 million trees globally. Work with CI, WRI, and Product to evolve the portfolio in line with fundraising projections and sustainability outcomes while managing operational and reputational risk and maintaining cost-per-tree discipline.
• Partner Engagement & Fundraising: Collaborate with Product on partner engagement by cultivating funding opportunities toward annual fundraising targets and driving or supporting initiatives such as the NAT Gala and other sponsorship events.
• Carbon Credit Offering: Support Product in developing a PPC-linked carbon credit offering to diversify long-term funding. Partner with CI to assess project suitability and integrity, support the offering’s design, value proposition and positioning, and enable customer conversations that test demand and inform funding and portfolio decisions. Ensure carbon credit projects support PPC’s 100M tree goal.

Climate Adaptation & Resilience

Work across Mastercard teams (e.g., Public Sector, Growth Segments, CFIG, Services, Core Product, CNPF, and regional teams) to identify, shape, and advance commercialization and market development pathways for climate adaptation and resilience solutions aligned with customer priorities and regional needs.
• Pipeline Building: Partner with Strategic Growth teams to build pipelines of climate adaptation and resilience opportunities in priority markets and sectors, translating ecosystem engagement and external partnerships into qualified leads, trusted relationships, and scalable commercial pathways. Serve as an SME to integrate climate adaptation and resilience into Mastercard solutions and inclusive growth initiatives.
• Pilots & Early Market Development: Drive pilots and early commercial and market development engagements that test climate resilience use cases, demonstrate demand, clarify revenue potential, and drive impact. Partner with Product, Business Development, and Strategic Growth teams to move opportunities from concept to early execution and handoff.

About You

• Sustainability experience in an international environment, preferably in digital payments.
• Proven ability to manage and activate partnerships across NGOs, customers, and industry networks.
• Strong credibility with senior customer stakeholders and conservation and thought-leadership partners.
• Experience leading complex, multi-partner programs with financial, operational, and reputational considerations that drive engagement, leads, and funding.
• Able to prioritize multifaceted work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, global environment.
• Able to navigate and influence in a matrixed organization and lead cross-functional collaboration.
• Comfort with ambiguity while delivering clear, management-ready outputs and recommendations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including executive briefings and presentations.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and cross-functionally.
• Master’s degree in environmental management, business administration, sustainability studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
