Salary Range: $184,683 – $276,848 annually (based on experience)

Incentive Bonus: Up to 17.5%

Overview

A high-acuity acute care hospital in San Jose, CA is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to lead Operating Room operations.

This role oversees a multi-specialty surgical program including general, spine, orthopedics, cardiovascular, and neurosurgery, with a strong focus on operational performance, clinical quality, and team leadership.

The Director will lead OR operations, drive efficiency, and partner with executive leadership and physicians to support growth and service line expansion.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Operating Room (12 OR suites)
• Lead staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning for ~50+ FTEs
• Drive clinical quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance
• Manage departmental budget, expenses, and productivity metrics
• Improve patient throughput, case flow, and OR efficiency
• Partner with physicians and leadership on service line growth
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices
• Coach and develop leadership staff, including OR Manager(s)
• Ensure alignment with organizational goals and performance metrics

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
• Active RN license
• 1+ year recent leadership experience in Surgical Services (Director or strong Manager level)
• 3+ years Surgical Services / OR experience

Preferred:

• Master’s Degree (MSN, MHA, or related)
• Experience in high-volume, multi-specialty OR environments
• Strong background in OR operations, staffing, and budgeting
