Director of Patient Safety
Asheville, NC
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday – Friday (Administrative Hours, No Weekends)
Salary Range: $125,000 – $180,000 annually (based on experience)
Incentive Bonus: Up to 17.5%
Relocation Assistance: Available (case-by-case)
Overview
A large tertiary care hospital in Asheville, NC is seeking a Director of Patient Safety to lead and advance a comprehensive patient safety program.
This role focuses on eliminating preventable harm, strengthening safety culture, and driving system-wide reliability across a high-acuity healthcare environment.
The Director will partner closely with executive and clinical leadership to implement safety initiatives, develop teams, and improve measurable outcomes.
Responsibilities
• Lead hospital-wide patient safety strategy and program implementation
• Identify, analyze, and mitigate patient safety risks
• Drive safety culture initiatives and high-reliability practices
• Partner with executive, physician, and clinical leaders
• Oversee patient safety education and staff development
• Support event review, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning
• Monitor and report on patient safety metrics and outcomes
• Collaborate with risk management and quality teams
• Engage patients and families in safety initiatives
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare-related field
• 3–5+ years of direct patient safety experience (required)
• Experience in a hospital or clinical care setting
• Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) or ability to obtain within 1 year
Preferred:
• Master’s Degree
• Clinical background (RN, etc.)
• Experience in high-acuity or large hospital environments
Critical Requirement:
• Candidates must have dedicated patient safety experience
• Quality-only backgrounds without patient safety focus will not be considered
