Job Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) provides strategic and operational leadership for all nursing services at Pinecrest of Country Manor in Brainerd. This role is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care while building and supporting a strong, engaged nursing team.
The DON leads day-to-day nursing operations, including staffing, clinical oversight, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring services meet all state and federal requirements. This leader partners closely with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to foster a culture grounded in compassion, collaboration, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications
Current RN licensure in the state of Minnesota and graduation from an approved school of nursing
Broad knowledge of nursing practices with emphasis in geriatric nursing, rehabilitation nursing, and mental health
Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to manage, coach, and develop teams
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families
Knowledge of state and federal regulations and compliance requirements
Understanding of reimbursement processes, including MDS and insurance payors
Basic computer proficiency
Commitment to ongoing professional development in nursing, gerontology, and leadership
Genuine concern for the elderly and a passion for resident-centered care
Key Responsibilities
Provides leadership in the development and implementation of nursing service philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures in collaboration with administration
Determines appropriate staffing levels and skill mix to support quality care and operational needs
Leads recruitment, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and performance management of nursing personnel, including participation in disciplinary action and termination when necessary
Oversees performance evaluations for supervisory nursing staff and ensures completion of evaluations for all nursing team members
Participates in resident selection and supports development and implementation of resident care policies
Leads development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of nursing service policies and procedures
Plans, monitors, and manages the nursing services budget, including oversight of supplies and equipment
Ensures accurate, complete, and timely resident documentation and records
Provides clinical oversight, including daily review of nursing documentation, reports, and resident status
Collaborates with pharmacy and clinical teams to ensure safe medication management and distribution practices
Coordinates resident care planning, evaluation, and ongoing revisions to meet individual needs
Identifies and supports staff education and professional development needs
Maintains compliance with all state and federal regulations and survey requirements
Conducts daily rounds and maintains ongoing communication with nursing staff regarding resident care needs
Coordinates external medical services, consultations, and interdisciplinary care
Partners with rehabilitation services to support effective rehabilitative nursing programs
Promotes strong communication and collaboration across departments
Develops and maintains nursing orientation programs and contributes to job description updates
Monitors staffing patterns and productivity
Ensures effective discharge and transfer planning
Oversees employee health requirements in accordance with regulations
Participates in committees, quality improvement initiatives, and leadership meetings
Leads nursing meetings and supports communication across all levels of nursing staff
Ensures proper handling and destruction of controlled substances in accordance with regulations
Supports safety programs and initiatives
Partners with residents and families to address concerns and provide education
Reviews timecards and supports payroll processes
Maintains communication with senior leadership regarding operations and emerging issues
Oversees scheduling of nursing personnel, including licensed staff
Coordinates Medicare, case mix, and assessment processes
Supports infection control program development and implementation
Monitors incident reports and workers’ compensation trends
Reviews financial reports related to nursing operations
Performs other duties as assigned
