Position Summary
Freedom Behavioral Hospital of Greenville is seeking a strong, dynamic Director of Nursing (DON) to lead and oversee all nursing services within our behavioral health facility.
The DON is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, staffing effectiveness, and overall nursing operations. This role provides leadership, direction, and clinical oversight to all nursing staff while supporting hospital-wide quality and performance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
Provide oversight and direction to all nursing staff and services
Ensure safe and appropriate staffing levels based on census and acuity
Develop and manage nursing schedules and staffing plans
Serve as administrative on-call leader as needed
Lead, mentor, and develop nursing staff to achieve high performance
Clinical Oversight
Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care
Assist staff with clinical decision-making and patient care issues
Maintain compliance with nursing standards, policies, and procedures
Participate in patient care when necessary
Quality & Compliance
Lead and participate in QAPI (Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement) initiatives
Monitor, track, and analyze nursing performance data
Ensure survey readiness and compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies
Conduct audits and implement corrective actions as needed
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with HR on hiring, discipline, and performance management
Work with Intake and Business Development to support admissions
Participate in leadership, medical staff, and interdisciplinary meetings
Serve as a resource for policies, procedures, and nursing operations
Financial & Operational Management
Manage departmental budget and control labor costs
Monitor payroll and staffing grid compliance
Ensure efficient use of resources and supplies
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
MSN or higher preferred
Licensure
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state of Mississippi or compact)
Experience
Minimum 1 year of nursing leadership or management experience
Minimum of 2 years of behavioral health experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership and team development skills
Knowledge of psychiatric care and patient populations
Understanding of regulatory standards (Joint Commission, CMS)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Work Environment
Behavioral health hospital setting
Exposure to high-acuity psychiatric patients
Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting
Moderate to high activity level
