Position Title: Director of Community Wellness, Full-time, Permanent Position
Position Description: The Director of Community Wellness provides overall operational responsibility for overseeing multiple divisions including, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Health and Wellness, Mental Health and Addictions, Community Safety, Social Services/Ontario Works, Employment and Training and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Departments. The Director of Community Wellness will be responsible for developing new programs and/or initiatives to help our organization grow. The director will be responsible for assigning tasks, delegating responsibilities and overseeing the overall success of the organization’s Community Wellness projects.
Major Responsibilities:
Provide overall strategic leadership to the Health and Wellness, Mental Health and Addictions, Community Safety, Social Services/Ontario Works, Employment and Training and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) Departments
Develop and assist in the implementation of related goals and policies/procedures
Develop and maintain documentation of all completed initiatives
Review program activities to determine if they are achieving their goals and make recommendations for improvement
Develop, review, implement and administer a comprehensive addictions/wellness and mental health program/strategy
Develop, implement, monitor and update annual departmental workplans to ensure alignment with program mandates and organizational priorities
Prepare and publish monthly program reports for FWFN leadership and the community outlining progress, outcomes, and key activities
Maintain accurate documentation and records to support program transparency and accountability
Identify funding opportunities and lead the development, negotiation, and management of funding agreements with federal, provincial, and other funding partners
Oversee the systematic collection of program data (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually) to support reporting requirements and program evaluation
Ensure reporting to funders is accurate, timely, and compliant with agreement requirements
Attend and actively participate in weekly Directors meetings, monthly Directors and Managers meetings and quarterly all Staff meetings
Maintain a clear understanding of departmental and program mandates and ensure all activities, initiatives, and expenditures align with these mandates and FWFN strategic priorities
Contribute monthly updates to the FWFN community newsletter to keep members informed of departmental initiatives, programs, and outcomes
Operate with a high standard of accountability, transparency, and service to the membership of Fort William First Nation, ensuring programs are effectively managed and aligned with community priorities
Support and assist in the planning, development, and implementation of procedures and operational practices required to carry out policies and directives approved by Chief and Council
Ensure work aligns with the strategic direction and governance decisions of leadership
Attend Council meetings, as required, and provide departmental information and updates
Prepare and administer all related budgets
Act as a representative and liaison with all levels of government officials and various organizations
Respond with initiatives for the current State of Emergency
Represent FWFN with potential partners; seek out new health, wellness, safety, social services/employment, and ODSP opportunities and funding sources
Demonstrate effective communication skills, problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution
Demonstrate leadership qualities in support of departmental needs and serve as resource to staff members
Ensure staff development, orientation and training
Attend regular meetings with CEO, Directors, Managers and Staff to assure program collaboration and that the organization is meeting strategic planning goals
Maintain files; prepare correspondence, and other clerical duties as required.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in an associated field such as social work, community development, public administration, health or social science or combination of education and experience
Minimum of (5) five years in a related field with progressive responsibility
Demonstrated experience in financial management, including budget preparation and reporting
Proficient with Microsoft Office (including word, excel, power point and Outlook)
Demonstrated administrative management with the ability to supervise managers, coordinators and front-line staff
Knowledge and experience with Indigenous culture, traditions, medicine, and ceremony with the ability to provide recommendations for program evaluation and updates that will better support community members and/or effective interventions
Experience in managing crisis support and ability to mediate conflict, this includes thorough knowledge and experience with case management and counselling methodologies
Knowledge and experience with program development and implementation
Able to communicate complex ideas in a way that is easy to understand
Excellent written and oral communications, with an emphasis on keen listening, program adaptation and the ability to effectively interpret and assess program requirements to fit the needs of specific/vulnerable community members
Demonstrate ability to assist community members with concern and empathy, respecting their confidentiality and privacy, and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license
