We are looking for a Director of Business Development, Commercial Construction (General Contractor) to lead revenue generation and client acquisition within a general contractor environment, with full ownership of pipeline development through contract award.
This role operates within a commercial construction and preconstruction environment, focused on securing new projects across private and public sectors. The position is responsible for identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, and converting RFPs and leads into awarded work. This is a hands-on, front-end sales leadership role requiring deep construction knowledge, bid strategy ownership, and direct involvement in deal execution.
Responsibilities
• Build and manage a pipeline of commercial construction opportunities through cold outreach, networking, and strategic partnerships
• Identify and pursue private and government construction opportunities aligned with company capabilities
• Lead client conversations around project feasibility, budgeting, and construction approach
• Review and interpret RFPs, drawings, and specifications to position competitive bids
• Develop and present proposals, including pricing, scope, and value engineering strategies
• Source and qualify subcontractors across trades to support accurate bid development
• Lead bid strategy and collaborate with internal teams to assemble competitive proposals
• Maintain relationships with developers, owners, construction managers, and public sector stakeholders
• Coordinate with project managers, architects, and engineers to align scope and expectations pre-award
• Drive contract negotiations and ensure smooth transition from sales to project execution
Requirements:
• 5+ years of experience selling commercial construction or general contractor services
• Proven track record winning commercial or government construction projects
• Experience responding to RFPs and developing construction bids and proposals
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents
• Strong network within commercial construction, real estate, or public sector markets
• Experience working with subcontractors and assembling bid pricing
• Background in a general contractor or construction services environment required
• Must have direct deal ownership experience (not limited to support or coordination roles)
Benefits:
Compensation: $80,000–$100,000 base salary plus performance-based commission structure.
