We produce live and on-demand workouts from our NYC studio, and we hold the bar high on every shoot.

Overview

Tonal is looking for an experienced on-set Director to serve as a go-to substitute when our full-time Director is out. Vacation and planned absences are scheduled 2 to 3 months in advance, so you'll have real lead time, not a last-minute call. This is an ongoing on-call relationship, not a one-time engagement. The right candidate is an organized, creative professional who's passionate about health and fitness and comfortable stepping into existing workflows to keep production running smoothly.

As the Director, you will direct onstage fitness talent through workouts and branded content, guiding performance through thoughtful rehearsal, clear cueing, and strong storytelling. You’ll play an essential role in upholding brand standards and ensuring every shoot delivers a high-quality, engaging experience.

This is a contracted role through our employer of record.

What You Will Do

• Direct talent for both live and pre-recorded content

• Provide on-set direction to guide talent in delivering their best performances, regardless of their on-camera experience

• Quickly get up to speed on scheduled content and curriculum to ensure continuity across productions

• Review workout details and rundowns prior to every shoot to ensure accuracy

• Uphold brand aesthetics and quality standards at all times

Who You Are

• At least 5–7 years of experience directing and producing video content at an agency, brand, or broadcaster

• Experience with IFBs and in-ear direction is a must

• Experience in live production is a plus

• Experience in fitness production is a plus

• Comfortable working with all levels of on-camera talent, from unknown to celebrity

• Experienced in studio production environments

• Able to step into an active production with strong prep skills and execute with confidence

• Very high attention to detail and organization — especially critical when inheriting someone else's workflow
