ABOUT Our Intellectual Property team
Intellectual property litigation requires clear, expert economic analysis. For decades, Secretariat’s IP professionals have delivered exactly that. With experience in hundreds of IP matters across nearly every industry, our experts are trusted for their clarity and credibility.
When IP disputes arise, effective expert testimony is essential. Secretariat’s experts excel at presenting understandable, persuasive analyses to judges, juries, and arbitrators. We provide clear testimony in cases involving patent infringement, copyright and trademark infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and more. Our experts integrate rigorous economic reasoning with relevant legal standards, case law, and the unique facts of each case.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Secretariat has been leading economic analysis and supporting court testimony in high-stakes arenas for over 40 years. Law firms, government agencies, and corporations trust us to answer complex questions, provide rigorous analysis, and provide insightful testimony. Our firm’s standard is a commitment to integrity and creative, rigorous, and objective analysis.
Case Management
• Lead one to three cases at a time
• Manage teams of Associates
• Organize case research and data analysis
• Work closely with experts on a regular basis
Data Analysis
• Work with complex databases and raw client data in Stata, R, and other programs
• Utilize tools such as Microsoft Excel for statistical analysis
• Analyze industry participants and characteristics affecting market competition
• Calculate cost and damages estimates
Research
• Consult with clients and private sources to obtain necessary data
• Investigate industries and companies using online and government resources
• Review litigation and case documents
Team Leadership
• Mentor junior members of the team and contribute to the growth and development of the IP
team
• Conduct economic, financial, accounting, and industry research
• Analyze financial and non-financial information, and report findings to other team members
• Assist with the preparation of damages and forensic accounting reports
• Assist with the preparation of critique reports examining the conclusions of other experts
• Communicate with clients and counsel
• Prepare for and attend hearings, trials and mediations
• Manage the day-to-day requirements of multiple engagements
QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced degree in Economics, Business, or Public Policy (e.g., MBA MA, PhD preferred).
• 7-10 years of experience in a similar role, either in a consulting firm, regulatory agency, or corporate advisory role.
• Proven experience working on high-profile antitrust matters or economic analysis in merger and conduct cases.
• Strong project management and client-facing skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues clearly to non-experts
• Authorized to work in the US without the need for sponsorship in the future.
• Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Experience with economic modeling or familiarity with quantitative tools used in damages analysis.
• Relationships with clients and ability to bring in new cases, either for other experts or to expand own practice.
Salary Range
• $190,000 to $220,000
