Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.

JOB PURPOSE 

 

Under the direction and supervision of the President/CEO, the Director, Information Services (Director) is responsible for the controlled planning and management of all information technology and system matters, including but not limited to, technology infrastructure, systems, security, disaster recovery & business continuity, information management, support & training services, and risk management. The position is responsible and accountable for ensuring all information services systems are always operational, within the limits of requirements, specifications, costs, and timelines.

The Director is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

 

General Administration 25%

Managing staff, including recruitment, job descriptions, work plans, task management, performance reviews etc;

Procuring and continually maintaining both software and hardware technologies for SNP S. operations;

Ensuring that appropriate internal technological communications occur effectively and efficiently throughout the organization;

Ensuring an optimal physical environment (ergonomics, end user accessibility) for I.S. staff through consultation with, but not limited, to operations;

Ensuring continuous improvement and organizational alignment of reporting units within the portfolio through feedback from SNP Staff and students by way of surveys and other available feedback mechanisms;

Participate in processes related to policy development at SNP;

Responsible for knowing, understanding, upholding, and following SNP’s policies, processes, and reporting requirements, and supporting the collaborative development and effective implementation of new and emergent policies and processes;

Participating in staff, Board, Senior Leadership Team, the President’s Emergency Succession Team, committee, working group, and program advisory meetings, as well as staff trainings and information sessions, as required;

Developing and managing budgets, as required; and

Other related duties, as required.

 

Information Management & Information Services Governance 20%

Defining and documenting organizational requirements through various research methods and institutional collaboration;

Ensuring information management structure and access is adequate for SNPs continued overall growth;

Managing and strategically identifying multiple tiers of data, ensuring continued access to historic data;

Optimizing organizational access to information through multiple industry best practices, via identified systems (SharePoint, D2L etc.);

Promoting alignment, advancement, and understanding of the S. team within the organization through continued internal lobbying, and membership in internal SNP committees;

Identifying, joining, and continuing participation with industry associations; (education technology user groups, technology user groups etc.);

Identifying and creating Information Services policies, processes, and procedures for SNP and internally within the I.S. unit, ensuring standardization for I.S. operations, usage, and risk mitigation

Other related duties, as required. 

 

Security & Infrastructure 15%

Identifying current and potential security concerns (password complexity, data exposure, access levels etc.), and ensuring reasonable and appropriate considerations are identified and executed regarding all facets of SNPs data and information;

Remediating any identified breaches that increase SNPs risk and exposure;

Ongoing review of I.S. policies and procedures to ensure optimal security of all SNP information in adherence with privacy laws and industry best practices;

Identifying and implementing optimal enterprise network and server infrastructure for all SNP locations;

Deploying and maintaining high standards for end user computing requirements by ensuring workstations are configured with the necessary software for each group of users;

Auditing and asset management through internal I.S. software to safeguard appropriate utilization of SNP I.S. budget;

Other related duties, as required. 

 

Systems 15%

Identifying, documenting, and implementing organizational requirements to progress SNP’s systems usage;

Auditing and archival of systems to ensure compliance with policies and processes of both operational usage and retention schedules;

Developing framework to facilitate organizational engagement with implemented systems by identifying trackable KPI’s for each unit within SNP;

Other related duties, as required. 

Support Services 15%

Ensuring end user (student, instructor, admin) support requests are addressed and resolved in a timely manner;

Ensuring support resolutions are communicated to the non-technical end user through the online ticket system;

Identifying and implementing training opportunities for SNP, through feedback and ticket trend analysis;

Other related duties, as required. 

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Planning 10%

Identifying organizational DR & BCR requirements and ensuring alignment with educational and archival industry regulations;

Ensuring the deployment, compliance, and retention of strategic requirements on a continual basis;

Other related duties, as required. 

 

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE 

 

Completion of a  Master’s degree in a related discipline i.e. computer science, business administration or business management or Professional Certification (I.S.P., ITCP).

 

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE 

 

Over seven years and including ten years of experience in Information Technology developing and supporting systems, users and business operations

Experience in project and priority management, including managing complex assignments from inception through to implementation

Experience in managing the technical facets of information systems

 

Direct experience managing and supervising a team

 

Experience in strategic I.S. development, planning and support

 

Criminal Record Check

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.

POSITION TYPE: Existing Vacancy  

JOB TYPE: Full-time Permanent

SCHEDULE: 37.5 hrs Monday-Friday

WORK MODEL: Hybrid

PAY BAND: 10; Core range $118,399.01–$138,723.31. The target hiring salary for this position is minimum (Step 1) up to 45% of the pay band. Considerations for new hire step placements include experiential knowledge and/or language and cultural expertise.
