Job Description

Role Purpose

The Director, Data will define and execute the data strategy for LSEG Risk Intelligence, shaping how data is collected, structured, governed, and leveraged across the organisation. The role will ensure the quality, integrity, and scalability of our global datasets—spanning sanctions, PEPs, adverse media, and payment risk—while enabling next-generation AI and analytics capabilities.

Working closely with Product, Engineering, and the COO organisation, the Head of Data will build the foundations of the Active Data Layer (ADL) and Decision Intelligence (DI) stack, powering trusted insights across LSEG’s risk ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Governance

• Develop and execute a multi-year data strategy that aligns with RI’s product and AI transformation agenda.
• Establish and enforce enterprise-grade data governance frameworks, including standards for lineage, metadata, and quality management.
• Define common data models and taxonomies for global entity resolution and risk classification.
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Security teams to ensure regulatory adherence and ethical data usage.
• Collaborate with senior RI stakeholders on creation and implementation of future roles, responsibilities, team structures, and workflows to support the evolution of the RI data operating model.

Data Architecture & Platforms

• In collaboration with Engineering, define the target-state architecture for the Active Data Layer, including unified ingestion, enrichment, and access patterns.
• Partner with Engineering to design and evolve a scalable, cloud-native data platform (e.g., lakehouse, mesh) that underpins both product and analytical workloads.
• Drive development and adoption of modern data tooling, APIs, and metadata services to support internal and customer-facing use cases.

Data Quality & Enrichment

• Lead initiatives to improve completeness, timeliness, and accuracy across all datasets, using machine learning and reinforcement learning approaches where appropriate.
• Establish transparent data quality KPIs and dashboards that link directly to product performance and customer value.
• Work with Product teams to identify enrichment opportunities and proprietary data sources that strengthen competitive differentiation.

Analytics & Insight Enablement

• Build and govern enterprise-wide BI and analytics capabilities that surface actionable insights across product, commercial, and risk teams.
• Champion self-service data access, improving time-to-insight and reducing dependency on centralised reporting.
• Partner with Product to embed analytical and model-driven features into customer experiences.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead and develop a high-performing, globally distributed data team, creating a culture of excellence, curiosity, and continuous improvement.
• Act as a senior advisor to the CPO and Group Head of AI on data maturity, AI-readiness, and strategic investments.
• Collaborate with the COO’s operational teams to ensure that data pipelines, processes, and SLAs align with production delivery standards.

Experience & Qualifications

• Proven experience leading large-scale data strategy, governance, and architecture functions in complex, regulated or data-rich environments.
• Deep expertise in modern data architectures (data mesh, lakehouse, metadata-driven design) and data management frameworks.
• Demonstrated success in improving data maturity and enabling analytics/AI capabilities at scale.
• Strong background working in global, matrixed organisations with distributed data and product teams.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, capable of influencing at executive and board level.
• Degree in a quantitative, technical, or information discipline (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Background

• Experience in B2B data or RegTech environments.

• Familiarity with sanctions, PEPs, adverse media, or compliance data domains.
• Working knowledge of AWS-based data infrastructure and modern analytics tooling (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Looker).

Impact & Success Measures

• Measurable improvement in data quality, latency, and completeness across the RI dataset portfolio.
• Delivery of a unified, trusted Active Data Layer supporting all Risk Intelligence products.
• Establishment of a mature, governed data environment ready for AI and Decision Intelligence workloads.
• Strong alignment between data, product, and AI teams—reducing duplication and increasing delivery velocity.
• Establish patterns for creating and delivering new BI and analytics outputs.
