About Us The Directional Drill Operator is responsible for safely operating drills to complete underground projects. This includes setting up, drilling variable-sized holes, pulling back conduits, and collaborating with the Locator and laborers throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate Vermeer and Ditch Witch Horizontal Directional Drills (HDD) with prior experience.
• Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and utility markings.
• Perform pre-operation equipment inspections and maintenance.
• Maneuver equipment safely in tight spaces and near existing utilities.
• Wear required uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Assist with additional projects and duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to follow directions accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and sound decision-making.
• Work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively in a team.
• High safety awareness and commitment.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Maintain a clean driving record.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required; CDL preferred.
• Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
• Exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and outdoor elements.
• Work on uneven terrain and near road noise and traffic.
• Frequent interaction with heavy equipment and moving mechanical parts.
• Ability to lift materials over 50 lbs.
Education & Experience:
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction, telecommunications, or utility sectors.
• Knowledge of safe digging practices and underground utility identification.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capabilities.
