Job Description
TrainCareConsult Inc. is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide direct care and in-home support to an individual living in Alhambra, California. This position is based in the individual’s personal residence and is not a licensed facility setting. However, the support needs of the role may include many responsibilities similar to those performed in structured residential care environments.
The selected staff member will be expected to provide person-centered support in the home and community while assisting with daily routines, supervision, behavioral support, and activities essential to the individual’s health, safety, and quality of life. This includes supporting the individual with tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication assistance/passing, and transportation to outings and appointments, as appropriate to the assignment.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working in a private home environment, can maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries, and understands that direct support work often requires flexibility, sound judgment, and consistency.
Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for providing in-home and community-based support to an individual with developmental and/or behavioral support needs. While this position does not take place in a licensed residential facility, it does require staff to be comfortable carrying out daily support tasks commonly associated with higher levels of hands-on care in order to help maintain the individual’s daily living needs and overall well-being in their home environment.
Staff in this role must be comfortable supporting a home setting where responsibilities may include supervision, assistance with routines, cooking, cleaning, medication support, behavioral redirection, and safe transportation into the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide direct support and supervision in the individual’s home and community
Assist with daily living activities and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive home environment
Prepare meals and support with food-related routines based on the individual’s needs
Perform light housekeeping and cleaning tasks connected to the individual’s care and household upkeep
Assist with medication passing/support in accordance with training, company policy, and applicable requirements
Transport the individual to outings, activities, appointments, and community-based opportunities as assigned
Implement individualized support strategies, service goals, IPP objectives, and behavior support approaches as directed
Use approved de-escalation, redirection, and intervention techniques when needed
Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including session notes, medication-related records as applicable, incident reporting, and other service documentation
Communicate effectively with supervisors, family members, team members, and other involved professionals as appropriate
Follow all company policies, training requirements, and regulatory expectations
Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and respectful interactions at all times
Complete additional related duties as needed based on the support needs of the individual and operational requirements
Important Position Expectations
This role is located in the individual’s personal home and should not be viewed as a traditional facility-based assignment. At the same time, staff must understand that the support needs in the home may require a level of hands-on assistance similar to what may be seen in ARF-type environments. As such, applicants must be comfortable with both the home-based nature of the setting and the practical care responsibilities involved.
Applicants should understand that:
This is not a licensed facility, but rather support provided in the individual’s home
The role includes routine support tasks such as cooking, cleaning, medication passing, and transportation
Staff must be comfortable working independently in a home-based environment
Some cases may include behavioral challenges, emotional dysregulation, or periods of escalation that require calm and professional intervention
Duties listed are not exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the individual’s needs, schedule, and care requirements
Consistency, professionalism, patience, and attention to safety are essential to success in this role
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Prior experience providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral support needs preferred

Additional Requirements
Ability to obtain and maintain fingerprint clearance through DOJ/FBI prior to working with the individual
Valid Driver’s License, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation
Ability and willingness to drive the individual to community outings, appointments, and other approved activities
Physical ability to lift, bend, walk, move, turn, and stand for extended periods as required by the role
Ability to safely assist with household and support-related tasks in the home environment

The work environment may include behavioral challenges, periods of escalation, and situations requiring staff to remain calm, observant, and responsive.
