Direct Support Professional (DSP) – ASL Required
Location: Chester County, PA
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate, reliable, and experienced Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this role, you will help individuals build independence, develop life skills, and actively participate in their communities while ensuring their safety and well-being.
This position is ideal for someone who is patient, empathetic, and passionate about empowering individuals to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Key Responsibilities
Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including grooming, cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.
Support individuals in participating in community activities, recreation, and social engagement.
Accompany individuals to appointments, shopping trips, and social outings as needed.
Encourage and teach independent living skills, including money management, cooking, transportation use, and personal safety.
Implement and document Individualized Support Plans (ISP) and track progress toward individual goals.
Promote communication, self-advocacy, and decision-making skills.
Support individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing using American Sign Language (ASL).
Maintain accurate documentation and report incidents, behavioral changes, or health concerns to supervisors promptly.
Foster a supportive, respectful, and inclusive environment.
Requirements
American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency required
CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Authorization to work in the United States
Successful completion of a background check
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum 1 year of experience in healthcare, human services, or disability support
Qualifications & Skills
Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate effectively using ASL
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Flexibility to work varied shifts including days, evenings, and weekends
