Position Summary
West Penn Heavy Haul is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to support our heavy haul truck and trailer fleet at our Williamsport, PA facility. This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining tractors and specialized trailers to ensure safe, efficient operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically strong, safety-focused, and capable of handling both shop work and occasional road calls.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose, service, and repair heavy haul tractors and specialized trailers
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and DOT compliance checks
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and running gear
Respond to road calls and complete field repairs as needed
Accurately document repairs, inspections, and service records
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatch, and management to minimize downtime
Stay current on industry best practices, tools, and diagnostic technologies
Qualifications
Proven experience as a diesel mechanic (heavy haul or trailer experience strongly preferred)
Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrains, hydraulics, and electrical systems
Experience with DOT regulations and inspection standards
Ability to diagnose and complete repairs independently
Willingness to perform road calls as required
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Must provide own basic hand tools (specialty tools provided)
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy components and tools
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods
Comfortable working in shop and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions
