Role Overview

Senior MS‑SQL DBA is responsible for the operational excellence, performance, and reliability of Microsoft SQL Server databases across critical production environments. The role focuses on Run activities while also contributing to architecture, optimization, automation, and high‑availability strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily database operations: advanced monitoring, performance tuning, incident resolution.

• Administer and optimize MS‑SQL environments (installation, patching, upgrades, backups, restores, Commvault).

• Design, implement, and maintain high‑availability and disaster recovery solutions (AlwaysOn, clustering, log shipping).

• Ensure database security, compliance, and audit readiness (access control, encryption, GDPR).

• Support and guide deployments, migrations, and major technical upgrades. • Produce and maintain operational documentation, standards, and automation scripts.

• Drive continuous improvement, capacity planning, and reliability engineering initiatives.

• Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

 

Required Skills

• Strong expertise in MS‑SQL Server (2016–2022): engine internals, indexing, query optimization.

• Advanced troubleshooting using DMVs, wait statistics, execution plans.

• High‑availability and DR mastery: AlwaysOn AG, FCI, log shipping, replication.

• Solid experience with Windows Server administration and PowerShell automation.

• Strong understanding of security, encryption (TDE), auditing, and compliance frameworks.

• Experience with MS‑SQL in Azure environments (PaaS, IaaS, Managed Instances).

• Ability to manage mission‑critical production environments with autonomy and rigor.

 

• 7+ years of experience as an MS‑SQL DBA in production environments.

• Strong analytical mindset, leadership, and ability to handle complex incidents.

• Comfortable working in fast‑paced, high‑availability, and regulated environments.

•Comfortable working in production environments with guidance from senior DBAs.

• Knowledge of Oracle databases is a plus.

• Experience with monitoring or DevOps tools (Grafana, Redgate, SCOM, CI/CD pipelines).
