Job Description
Albany County is seeking to hire a Cook in the Detention Center. This is a full-time, benefited position that will be responsible for providing a balanced nutritional program for the inmate population.
The working hours for this position will be 7:30am – 5:30pm. This position will work four, 10-hour shifts any combination of times. Weekend availability is a must.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Graduate or GED;
Prefer some cooking experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Be self-directed, organized;
The ability to work independently as well as with other kitchen staff;
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
The Cook is responsible for performing the following duties:
Preparing balanced nutritional meals for the occupants according to a pre-established menu;
Ensuring that preparation techniques meet OSHA safety and health requirements for: Protective barriers during preparation; Proper serving size; Proper serving temperature; Proper equipment sanitation & storage.
Accounting for utensil, equipment and implement: Counts before and after use (each meal); Proper function, condition, and needed repairs; Labor supervision & work schedules.
Maintain the security of the kitchen areas and other areas used;
Receive, off-load inventory, and store all supplies;
Forecast, order, and verify projected supply needs;
Comply with all Detention Center policies and procedures;
Report to the Jail Administrator, Sergeant, Corporal/shift supervisor;
Prepare and document meals prepared for inmates with special dietary needs;
Other duties as assigned.
Salary: $17.33/hour
