Position Summary
The Deburr & Detailing Technician is responsible for finishing machined components by removing burrs, smoothing edges, and refining surface finishes to meet strict quality and cosmetic standards. This role requires precision handwork, strong attention to detail, and the ability to ensure parts are dimensionally accurate and visually clean prior to assembly or final inspection.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and experienced working in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Set up and operate hand tools and finishing equipment to remove burrs, sharp edges, and surface imperfections from machined parts.
Polish, blend, and detail components according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications.
Interpret blueprints, shop travelers, and work orders to determine finishing and cosmetic requirements.
Improve the visual appearance and surface quality of components by blending tool marks and applying specified surface finishes.
Inspect completed parts using magnifiers, profilometers, and other precision measuring tools to verify finish and cosmetic requirements.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while ensuring proper handling and storage of parts to prevent damage.
Follow all company safety procedures and environmental guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Collaborate with machinists, quality control personnel, and engineering teams to address inconsistencies and improve finishing processes.
Support additional production or manufacturing-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in machining, metal finishing, or manufacturing is a plus.
1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, machining, deburring, or precision finishing environments preferred.
Strong manual dexterity and exceptional attention to detail.
Experience using detailing hand tools, polishing equipment, and precision finishing tools.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications.
Familiarity with cosmetic quality standards and surface finishing best practices preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while performing detailed work.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Strong visual abilities including close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Working Environment
Exposure to fine particulates, machine noise, oils, cutting fluids, and industrial chemicals.
Work performed around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
Required use of PPE including eye protection and face masks.
Safety procedures must be followed at all times to maintain a safe work environment.
