Position Summary
The Desktop Support Technician is responsible for providing frontline, day-to-day IT support for end users across the organization. This role focuses on desktop and laptop support, peripherals, printers, mobile devices, applications, basic user administration, and endpoint management using NinjaOne.
Working under the direction of the Cloud and Infrastructure Lead, this role ensures employees are equipped with properly configured, secure, and well-supported technology. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role centered on keeping end-user IT operations running smoothly.
This position is ideal for a student—we can arrange weekly hours (up to 20) around your class schedule. Plus, from May to August, additional project work allows for full-time (40 hours/week) summer employment.
Key Responsibilities
End-User Support
Provide Tier 1 desktop and user support for in-office and remote employees
Troubleshoot hardware, software, login, and performance issues
Support Windows laptops and desktops
Assist users with everyday IT questions and issues
Document issues, resolutions, and repeat problems
Prepare and configure new devices for employees and collect devices from departing employees.
Endpoint & Device Support
Manage endpoints using NinjaOne, including:
- Device onboarding and offboarding
- Imaging and re-imaging devices
- Application deployment and updates
- Patch management and monitoring
Prepare and configure new devices for employees
Maintain accurate device and asset records
Identity & User Administration
Perform basic identity tasks in Active Directory and Entra ID (Azure AD):
- Create and delete user accounts
- Reset passwords
- Add or remove users from groups
Support user onboarding and offboarding activities
Assist with basic Microsoft 365 user setup
Microsoft 365 & Application Support
Provide basic support for Microsoft 365 applications: (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint-user-level support)
Install, configure, and troubleshoot approved business applications
Escalate application or system issues when required
Printers, Peripherals & Mobile Devices
Support printers, scanners, and multifunction devices
Troubleshoot printer connectivity, drivers, and basic print issues
Set up and support mobile phones and tablets:
- Email and MFA setup
- Basic troubleshooting and resets
Replace and manage peripherals such as mice, keyboards, docks, and monitors
Office Access & Fob Management
Coordinate with building management to manage office access, including issuance and deactivation of access fobs.
Maintain an up-to-date record of all office access fobs, ensuring accurate tracking for new hires, departing employees, and lost or replaced fobs.
Serve as the first point of contact for staff regarding office access issues, including troubleshooting and reporting lost fobs.
Vendors, Purchasing & Inventory
Assist with IT purchasing requests:
- Laptops, peripherals, mobile devices, and accessories
Coordinate with vendors for:
- Hardware repairs or replacements
- Printer and telecom support
Track warranties, licenses, and assigned equipment
Security & Operational Support
Assist with enforcing basic IT security controls:
- MFA setup and troubleshooting
- Endpoint protection requirements
Follow IT policies, standards, and procedures
Escalate security or infrastructure issues to the Cloud and Infrastructure Lead
Documentation & Process
Maintain and update IT documentation:
- Onboarding and offboarding checklists
- Support guides and procedures
Follow standardized processes to ensure consistent service delivery
Required Education & Experience
Diploma or certificate in Information Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience
Post Secondary students or recent graduates with experience in desktop or IT support roles
Experience supporting Windows-based environments
Required Skills & Competencies
Windows 10 and Windows 11 support
Basic Active Directory and Entra ID user administration
Endpoint management tools (NinjaOne preferred)
Printer and peripheral troubleshooting
Mobile device and tablet support
Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills
Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
