Who You Are: The Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor at Tri County Tech, in partnership with the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, plays a crucial role in preparing students for successful careers as dental hygienists. Students engage in didactic courses delivered via live interactive video conferencing, complemented by hands-on laboratory and clinical training at Tri County Tech's state-of-the-art dental hygiene clinic. The instructor is integral to developing and implementing the clinical and laboratory skills necessary for students to become competent entry-level hygienists. This professional dental hygienist fosters a positive and rewarding clinical environment that promotes essential knowledge, skills, and ethical values in the field, significantly contributing to the success of the students and the program.
What You'll Possess
As a qualified candidate:
You'll possess a bachelor's Degree. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
You’ll possess a Registered Dental Hygienist license in the state of Oklahoma.
You’ll possess a minimum of three years of related work experience.
You’ll be CPR certified.
You’ll have familiarity with current dental hygiene practices and procedures.
You’ll have familiarity with andragogy and the training and development of others.
You are detail-oriented and organized.
You'll strive to exceed expectations and have excellent communication skills.
You'll take the initiative, seek out projects, and openly accept other duties as assigned.
You continually look for ways to improve your skillset and are always open to receiving feedback.
What You'll Do
Instructors plan and deliver high-level, rigorous instruction to students in a trade area. They are technical experts in a given field/ area of specialty with the ability to teach leadership and employability skills. They understand the concept of andragogy and pedagogy and the learner's motivation while displaying patience and enthusiasm to help their students meet their goals. Instructors are lifelong learners who can adapt easily to meet the needs of their students. They manage multiple projects with self-directed deadline-driven accountability. They are high-functioning professionals, applying the use of discretion and independent judgment while maintaining ultimate accountability.
Essential Functions:
Provide Clinical Instruction to Junior and Senior Dental Hygiene Students:
Provide guidance and oversight to the clinical experience in the areas of:
Basic and advanced dental hygiene instrumentation
Labs, including preclinic, radiology, clinic, and applied dental materials
Techniques of local anesthesia and N20 administration
Patient advocacy and care
Dental software / Office Applications
Verbal and written guidance to students ensuring all protocols are followed.
Coordinate dental hygiene clinic and rotation schedule (fall and spring)
Supervise dental hygiene students at defined rotation sites.
Maintain communication with students, faculty, patients and dentists.
Mentor responsibilities- student progress, community activities, research, Scientific Day.
Assist in clinic management of clinic operations, maintenance, inventory, sterilization, and acquiring dental unit equipment.
Establish connections for student community activities and maintain service agreements.
Attend all faculty functions and meetings required by the College of Dentistry.
Other Job-Related Duties as Assigned by the Supervisor: The omission of duties does not exclude it from the position if similar, related, or a logical assignment to the job. In other words, you'll be helping out on spontaneous projects and opportunities not listed above.
