Canadian Mental Health Association Peel Dufferin (CMHA Peel Dufferin) is pleased to partner with various agencies in the Peel Region, to offer services to the local community at the *new* Brampton based Homeless and Addictions Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub.

HART Hubs are community-based care hubs designed to address mental health, addiction and housing needs for people experiencing homelessness. They provide integrated care, offering a wide range of services such as primary care, mental health services, addiction care and employment supports. With targeted community outreach and rapid referral pathways, HART Hubs aim to support individuals with complex needs, helping them recover, achieve housing stability, and inclusion.

We are looking for a full-time DBT Therapist to join our team!

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Therapist will deliver individual client-centered therapy utilizing DBT interventions to individuals experiencing complex mental health concerns. The DBT program involves an intensive six months of weekly DBT skills group and phone coaching. 

Status: Permanent full-time, 37.5 hours per week including evenings and weekends. Note, this posting is for an active vacancy.
Salary: $74,028.74 - $87,411.79 annually. (Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)
Location: This position is based out of 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton office. Due to the nature of this program, this role is on-site and/or community based.

What You Will Do:

Conduct individual therapy sessions adhering to DBT protocol

Conduct comprehensive standardized mental health assessments, including conducting risk assessments

Devise and deliver therapeutic treatment to ensure progress toward goals, including management of crisis and life-threatening behaviours, adhering to the DBT treatment model

Plan, organize and co-facilitate DBT skills groups

Participate in DBT Team Consultation

Update all appropriate documentation within 24 hours of client contact

Communicate information, both oral and written, regarding assessments, treatment plans and evaluations to the treatment team, client, referral source and other caregivers within practice/agency/legal guidelines

Refer and link clients to community resources and groups that support recovery goals

Actively participate in staff meetings, team huddles, supervisions, case conferences, trainings, and events as required.

Participate in internal or external committees, including the Counselling Community of Practice, as requested by the Manager.

Work effectively and collaboratively with program teams, internal and external to CMHA/Peel Dufferin

What You Need to Join Our Team:

A Masters level degree in psychology, social work or relevant health or social science field required

Registration with a regulatory college required

Excellent understanding of Bio-Social Theory and Behaviour Therapy

Minimum of three years experience in providing individual and group-based comprehensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Experience working with individuals who have complex mental health and addictions issues

Experience working with individuals who engage in self-harming and self-injurious behaviours or who are at high risk to do so

Three to five years of experience within the health services sector with in-depth knowledge of complex clinical issues

Experience implementing DBT is a definite asset; DBT training will be provided

Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach, listen, build trust, and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.

Openness to operate from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and intersectional framework.

Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity, such as gender identity/expression, race/cultural background, religion, sexual orientation, disability, immigration and precarious status, family status, etc.

Fluency in a second language, including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.

Valid Canadian driver’s license and access to an insured automobile in good repair

A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report.
