About the Role
As a Database Engineer at Trendyol, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and reliability of our mission-critical database systems. You will proactively manage and optimize PostgreSQL environments, handle capacity planning, backups, replication, and high-availability operations, while driving automation through Infrastructure as Code. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will support application development with efficient schema design, query optimization, and release management. As a senior member of the team, you will also mentor junior engineers and drive best practices in database management.

Responsibilites:
• Day to day duties for proper database maintenance along with proactive measures to maximize the database availability and performance.
• Manages database capacity planning process.
• Provides a single point of contact related to DB operations and triage incoming requests.
• Automate repetitive tasks and manual processes through infrastructure code (IaC).
• Strong knowledge in software development, build, release and code analysis and DevOps tools such as Git, Ansible, Terraform.
• Actively monitor the database layer for health and capacity and take corrective actions as needed.
• Configuration control and release management for stored procedures and applications that wish to connect to the database.
• Handle backups, restores, and HADR operations.
• Available in rotation on-call for critical event handling.

Expected Qualifications:
• 5+ years administering production, always-on, high throughput, OLTP RDBMS on PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL backup & recovery, upgrade, patching, replication, and performance tuning.
• Proficient in HA and DR technologies such as SQL Always-on, SQL Clustering, log-shipping, Mirroring, Transactional replication, Load Balancing.
• Advanced knowledge of schema modeling, SQL query execution, execution analysis & optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning.
• Solid Linux fundamentals including kernel and OS tuning, as they relate to DB performance and security.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, excellent documentation, teamwork and good communication skills.
• Experience with DevOps tools (Git, Ansible, Terraform) and monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager).
• Experience in scripting & automation programming languages such as Go, Python, Bash, Powershell.
• Experience designing patterns, system architecture and implementing best practices.
• Experience with geo-redundant database deployments (active/active, active/standby).
• Hands-on experience running stateful database workloads on Kubernetes, especially PostgreSQL.
• Solid understanding of StatefulSets, PVCs, StorageClasses, and Pod Disruption Budgets in the context of database reliability.
• Ability to manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes-native PostgreSQL backups, failovers, and rolling upgrades.
• Responsible for planning and executing SQL Server to PostgreSQL database migrations, ensuring smooth transitions with minimal downtime and ensuring data integrity.
• Providing overnight and off-hours support as part of a support team.
• Experience in Kubernetes is a plus.
• Working with OpenStack or VCloud infrastructure is a plus.
• Proficiency in administering PostgreSQL database servers running on cloud providers is a plus.
• ​​Highly adaptable with the ability to work in a fast-paced demanding environment.
