What awaits you
As a Data Steward you will ensure that the company’s operational data is accurate, governed, and transformed into actionable insights. You will act as the central authority for data definitions, quality, and access, ensuring stakeholders can rely on data to make informed decisions.
- Define, document, and maintain governed data assets, business definitions, and metadata in the data catalog (including ownership, access rules, and sensitivity classification).
- Define and enforce data ownership, stewardship responsibilities, and access rights in partnership with Data Owners.
- Act as the primary point of contact for governance and definition questions for assigned datasets/domains.
- Ensure governance, privacy, and compliance requirements are applied consistently in day-to-day operations, including correct handling of sensitive data.
- Identify, document, and maintain data lineage for governed data assets, including source systems, transformations, and downstream usage.
- Ensure consistent interpretation and usage of data across reports, dashboards, and teams.
- Monitor data quality, integrity, and consistency across systems and reporting layers, and coordinate investigation, prioritization, and resolution of data quality issues with business and technical teams.
- Ensure historical comparability and traceability of key metrics (e.g., committed vs. delivered, defect rates, SLA performance).
- Design, maintain, and govern dashboards and visualizations for delivery, operations, and customer satisfaction, translating data into actionable insights for operational improvement and leadership decision-making.
What should you bring along
Mandatory (Requirements / Skills)
- Experience in managing and governing data, including ownership, stewardship responsibilities, and access rights.
- Ability to define and maintain business definitions and key metrics (KPIs) so teams use the same meaning.
- Experience documenting and maintaining metadata in a central catalog (definitions, sources, ownership, access rules, sensitivity classification).
- Ability to handle sensitive data correctly, following privacy and compliance requirements.
- Basic understanding of data lineage and data flows, and how changes impact reports and metrics.
- Ability to monitor data quality, investigate issues, and fix or coordinate fixes with business and technical teams.
- Ability to validate and investigate data using queries (e.g., SQL) and understand basic data models.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining dashboards and reports in Power BI (or similar BI tools).
- Strong ability to analyze data and explain insights and data issues in a clear, business-friendly way.
- Ability to work with different teams and act as a go-to person for data definition and governance questions.
- Attention to detail and comfort working with complex and changing data.
- University Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Economics or a related field
- At least 2 years of experience on a similar role is required
- Excellent English verbal and written skills
- German communication skills will be a plus
Nice to have
- Experience setting up automated data quality checks and monitoring (tool-based rules, alerts).
- Good understanding of IT delivery and IT operations data (sprints, defects, SLAs, service performance).
