This position sits within our Strategy, Growth & Planning Group. The Group is responsible for guiding the sustainable development and growth of Hamilton to meet both current and future needs. This group focuses on strategic land-use planning, boundary alignment, and exploring various planning, funding, and financing models for growth-related projects. Their efforts ensure that Hamilton's physical development aligns with the city's long-term vision and objectives.

Hamilton City Council’s purpose is to improve the wellbeing of Hamiltonians and we’re looking for a Data Reporting Analyst to help turn complex information into meaningful insight that supports growth and long-term planning.
Reporting to the Programme Manager, Analytics, you’ll gather analytics requirements and deliver business intelligence and reporting that supports regulatory needs, urban/spatial planning, and infrastructure funding modelling. 
Key responsibilities include:
• Support the delivery of the organisation’s Analytics Strategy to achieve effective data analysis, insights, and reporting.
• Develop and maintain region-wide operational and analytics reports, data cubes, data models, reporting systems, automation systems, dashboards, and performance metrics.
• Adhere to technical and QA processes to address business issues.
• Document any technical requirement, solution manual and process.
• Assist the development and maintenance of the Councils growth and infrastructure funding models and associated policy development.
• Design and delivery of reports and insights that analyse key regulatory, econometric, and planning functions.
• Examine, interpret, and communicate results of analytical initiatives to internal and external stakeholders in operational, leadership and elected areas of the organisation.
• Work with Digital Services to process analytics requests and develop Growth operational data store.
• Manage third party data vendors, data subscriptions and enforce the data quality.
• Support economic research and econometrics analysis for modelling purposes.
• Support the research, analysis, and preparation of reports of economic trends and insights that can assist in driving economic growth in Hamilton City.

• Relevant tertiary-level qualification (Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, or Information Systems qualifications preferred).
• Minimum 2+ years relevant workforce experience.
• A proven background and experience with HCC regulatory system Authority.
• A background in Statistics, finance, public policy, urban planning or economics (preferred, but not essential).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with demonstrated capability in complex formulae, pivot tables/charts, and Power Query.
• Solid understanding of statistics and data reporting fundamentals.
• Competency in SQL and data warehousing concepts, including ETL/ELT processes and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Strong understanding of relational databases, modern data warehouse architectures, and dimensional modelling.
• Competency in data visualisation using Microsoft Power BI (or equivalent), with experience producing and publishing dashboards (e.g. Power BI, Shiny).
• Understanding of modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Microsoft Fabric (preferred, but not essential).
• Experience using R or Python (or equivalent analytical toolsets).
• Experience with machine learning techniques.
• Experience with statistical or economic modelling.
