Job Description
đ Do you thrive in environments where influence, curiosity, and data come together to drive real business impact?
Weâre partnering with a fast-growing, Toronto-based SaaS organization thatâs redefining how companies approach financial planning and analytics. As they continue to invest in Data & AI, theyâre looking for a Data Governance Specialist who can help shape how data is trusted, structured, and leveraged across the business.
This is not a checkbox governance role. Itâs a high-impact, highly visible opportunity to build relationships across teams, influence how data is created and used, and help lay the foundation for AI-ready data in a modern, evolving environment.
đť Who You Are
⢠Youâre someone who doesnât just understand data, you understand people.
⢠Youâre naturally curious, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and confident asking the kinds of questions that uncover gaps others miss.
⢠You can move between business and technical conversations with ease, translating data challenges into practical, scalable solutions.
⢠Youâre not waiting for direction, youâre creating it.
đ Work Type
⢠Location: Toronto, ON (Remote)
⢠Vacancy Type: This role is a newly created position
Requirements:
đŻ What Youâll Do
⢠Partner with business and technical teams to establish and operationalize data governance practices
⢠Influence how data is defined, captured, and used across multiple lines of business
⢠Drive improvements in data quality, integrity, and consistency through root cause analysis and stakeholder collaboration
⢠Define and maintain data definitions, metadata, and lineage to ensure transparency and trust
⢠Support the rollout and adoption of data governance tools (e.g., cataloging, data quality platforms)
⢠Help shape AI-ready data practices, ensuring data is structured, complete, and fit for advanced analytics
⢠Embed governance standards into day-to-day workflowsânot just policies on paper
⢠Contribute to data privacy, compliance, and risk mitigation efforts
⢠Establish visibility into data health through metrics, monitoring, and reporting
⢠Act as a key driver in building a culture where data is treated as a strategic asset
â What Weâre Looking For
⢠4+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or similar data-focused roles, with the ability to drive initiatives and influence stakeholders
⢠Experience supporting or implementing data governance frameworks and stewardship models
⢠Strong understanding of data cataloging, lineage, and data quality principles (tools like Collibra, Informatica, Alation are assets)
⢠Ability to influence stakeholders across business functionsâthis role is as much about communication as it is about data
⢠Experience working with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, or cloud ecosystems like AWS/Azure/GCP)
⢠Exposure to data privacy and regulatory standards (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
⢠Strong analytical mindset with the ability to turn ambiguity into structured solutions
⢠Experience supporting or preparing AI-ready data for analytics or ML use cases
⢠A proactive, self-starter mentality with the ability to operate independently and drive initiatives forward
⢠Comfort working in fast-paced environments where priorities evolve and clarity is built along the way
đĽ What Makes This Role Exciting
⢠Real Influence, Not Just Oversight: You wonât just enforce governance, youâll shape how the business thinks about data across teams.
⢠Build Something That Lasts: This is a newly re-established function, giving you the opportunity to help define frameworks, practices, and long-term strategy.
⢠AI-Driven Future: Play a key role in ensuring data is structured and ready to support growing AI and machine learning initiatives.
⢠High-Trust, No-Red Tape Environment: Bring ideas forward, test them, and iterate quicklyâwithout layers of bureaucracy slowing you down.
⢠People-First Culture: Work in an environment that prioritizes employee growth, feedback, and continuous development, with clear opportunities to evolve your career.
Benefits:
⢠Salary Range: $120,000 â $150,000
⢠Comprehensive benefits coverage that supports your health, wellbeing, and day-to-day peace of mind
⢠RRSP matching and stock options, so youâre not just contributing to growth, youâre part of it
⢠Time off that actually lets you reset, including vacation, wellness days, personal days, and summer Fridays
⢠Flexible spending accounts designed to support real life, whether thatâs health, family, or lifestyle needs
