The Purpose:
The Data Governance Manager is responsible for establishing, embedding, and maturing AP+’s enterprise data governance capability. The role leads the development and evolution of the Data Governance Framework, ownership model, and operating practices to ensure critical data assets are effectively governed across their lifecycle. Working closely with Data, Technology, and Business teams, the role drives improvements in data quality and stewardship while ensuring governance practices align with regulatory requirements and enterprise risk management obligations.
Responsibilities of the role will cover the following key areas:
• Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous evolution of the Data Governance Framework, including maturity roadmap and target operating model aligned to enterprise strategy.
• Establish and maintain enterprise-wide data ownership and stewardship models, ensuring critical datasets are identified, classified, and assigned clear accountability.
• Oversee metadata management practices, including maintaining the business glossary, metadata standards, and ensuring data lineage for critical datasets.
• Define and enforce data lifecycle management standards covering data retention, archival, and disposal.
• Drive data quality management by partnering with data teams to define metrics, monitor Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and lead remediation and issue management processes.
• Ensure alignment with regulatory obligations (e.g., APRA CPS230, CPS234, Privacy Act, CDR) and embed compliance within governance practices.
• Manage data-related risks and ensure governance controls align with enterprise risk management and information security frameworks.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including enabling and supporting Data Stewards with tools, training, and guidance.
• Embed data governance practices into enterprise platforms, tools (e.g., Snowflake), and across projects, change initiatives, and business-as-usual activities.
• Drive stakeholder engagement through governance forums, and deliver reporting, KPIs, and insights on data governance maturity, risks, and progress to senior stakeholders
The skills & knowledge you need to have:
• 5–7 years’ experience in Data Governance, Risk, or related data management roles.
• Demonstrated experience in leading data governance or data quality initiatives within a financial services, payments, or technology organisation.
• Experience implementing data stewardship programs and/or business-owned governance processes.
• Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data management frameworks (e.g. DAMA DMBoK), with an understanding of data privacy, regulatory, and compliance obligations within financial services.
• The ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders and balance governance outcomes with business priorities.
• Proficiency in data governance and management tools (e.g. Snowflake, Collibra, Informatica), combined with strong problem-solving capabilities
