Data Engineer (Java, Scala)

Team Profile:

Our focus is developing systems that serve as a data integration and data feeding platform, ensuring that calculation results and other data produced in our Division reach downstream clients and meet all their requirements. The main challenges in this area include handling very high data volumes (feeding hundreds of gigabytes daily), interfacing with multiple other systems, being exposed to various financial products to a certain extent, and maintaining high resiliency and effective error handling while meeting strict SLAs. The data we feed is critical for regulatory compliance and fulfilling requirements set by the FED, PRA, and BAFIN. The team is also involved in developing regulatory scenario calculations requested by the Market Risk Department, with the main technical challenge being computational complexity.

Responsibilities::
• Develop IT systems covering various aspects of the business run by the Institutional Securities Division (Fixed Income and Equities).
• Work in close collaboration with business users and gain an understanding of financial products and financial markets.
• Participate in the full lifecycle of IT systems, from requirements gathering and user story refinement to solution design, implementation, and support.
• Support the support organization in answering complex and interesting user questions.
• Work in a diverse technology landscape including Java, Scala, Python, data management systems, and CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins.
• Contribute to solutions ranging from high-throughput, highly resilient data integration platforms to regulatory scenario calculations requested by the Market Risk Department.
• Take ownership of tasks based on skill set, personal interest, and team fit.

Requirements::
• 4–10 years of experience designing and building highly resilient data platforms.
• Strong knowledge of data engineering, system architecture, and data modeling.
• Experience with platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Kafka.
• Experience building applications in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with data- or computation-intensive backend systems, which is considered an advantage.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Scala, and Python, with willingness to learn additional languages if required.
• Solid object-oriented design skills and an understanding of, or interest in, functional programming concepts.
• Willingness to understand and enhance other people’s code and work with larger components including legacy systems.
• Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, pull requests, JIRA, and Scrum Agile methodology, which is an advantage.
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant IT or Engineering field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Prior knowledge of financial products, which is considered a plus.
