Responsibilities
• Analyze and optimize slow or inefficient SQL and NoSQL queries across legacy systems.
• Profile and tune MySQL and Cassandra clusters for high throughput and low latency.
• Work closely with application teams to modernize schema designs and improve access patterns.
• Design database optimization strategies aligned with microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architectures.
• Collaborate with architects and DevOps engineers to support database migration plans to AWS.
• Implement observability and metrics around database performance, availability, and errors.
• Contribute to defining the modernization roadmap, including the potential use of cloud-native databases or managed services.
• Ensure security and data governance compliance with PCI DSS and ISO 27001 standards.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Engineer, DBA, or Performance Engineer.
• Strong experience with MySQL and Cassandra in high-traffic or distributed environments.
• Expertise in query profiling, execution plans, and indexing strategies.
• Strong understanding of database internals, clustering, and replication.
• Comfortable working in Linux environments, with experience troubleshooting at the OS and DB level.
• Familiarity with cloud migration strategies and AWS RDS / Aurora / DynamoDB / OpenSearch is a plus.
• Experience working with large legacy databases and designing incremental modernization plans.
• Knowledge of data security, masking, encryption, and compliance best practices.
