Job Purpose
Responsible for the operational management, maintenance, and optimization of the organization’s data center infrastructure. This role ensures the continuous availability, performance, and security of servers, networking equipment, power systems, and cooling infrastructure. also supports the IT team in delivering reliable services, implements best practices for data center operations, and contributes to capacity planning and disaster recovery efforts to meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and upgrades of data center hardware, including servers, storage devices, and networking equipment.
2. Monitoring and Optimization: Continuously monitor data center systems to ensure optimal performance, uptime, and resource utilization.
3. Incident Response: Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, or environmental issues to minimize downtime and maintain service levels.
4. Capacity Planning: Assist in assessing current capacity and planning for future expansion or upgrades to meet organizational growth.
5. Environmental Control: Manage power, cooling, and environmental systems (e.g., HVAC, UPS) to maintain operational stability and efficiency.
6. Security Implementation: Enforce physical and logical security measures to protect data center assets and comply with standards (e.g., ISO 27001).
7. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment, configurations, maintenance schedules, and incident reports.
8. Vendor Coordination: contribute in the process of equipment procurement, repairs, and technical support as needed.[HG1.1]
9. Disaster Recovery Support: Contribute to the development and testing of disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications may substitute for formal education.
Experience:
• For Sr. Engineer: 3-5 years of experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or a related technical role.
• For Engineer: 1-3 years of experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or a related technical role.
• Hands-on experience with server hardware, networking, and environmental systems.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency with server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux) and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs) and hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
• Familiarity with power and cooling systems (e.g., UPS, CRAC units) and their management.
• Experience with monitoring tools and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication for coordinating with team members and vendors.
• Ability to work under pressure during incidents or outages.
Certifications (Preferred): Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), ITIL Foundation.
