Overview

We are seeking a highly self-directed Data Architect or strong Senior Data Engineer to review, redesign, and optimize data models and database structures supporting internal operational applications and reporting.

This role requires someone who understands the difference between operational schemas optimized for applications and reporting schemas optimized for analytics, and can design for both while improving overall database and pipeline performance.

You will play a critical role in refining data ingestion strategies, consolidating and standardizing schemas, and optimizing views and queries to support scalable, high-performing internal applications.

Key Responsibilities

- Review and redesign existing database schemas to eliminate duplication, inconsistency, and inefficiency

- Design operational schemas optimized for application performance

- Design reporting schemas optimized for analytics and reporting use cases

- Optimize database performance, including improving slow views and inefficient queries

- Evaluate and improve data ingestion and pipeline strategies

- Incrementally refactor live production systems without disrupting application functionality

- Write and optimize complex SQL queries (experience with Snowflake is a plus)

Must-Have Skills

- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance

- Strong experience in data modeling and schema design

- Demonstrated experience in database optimization and performance tuning

- Clear understanding of the differences between application-oriented (operational) schemas and reporting-oriented schemas, with the ability to design for both

- Proficiency in SQL (platform agnostic)

- Ability to improve data pipelines and database structures while maintaining live systems

Nice-to-Have Skills

- Experience with Snowflake

- Basic Python (variables, functions, dictionaries/lists, loops, if/else)

Location & Engagement

- Contract position

- LATAM-based candidates only

- Must align with US Central Standard Time (CST) working hours

- 40 hours per week
