A Data Architect is responsible for designing, developing, managing, and optimizing an organization’s data architecture to ensure data is collected, stored, integrated, secured, and made accessible in a scalable and efficient manner. They work closely with IT, data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to align data systems with organizational goals.
This role shapes how the company’s data is organized and used—supporting analytics, decision‑making, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture Design
• Design, build, and maintain scalable relational and analytical databases.
• Create blueprints and models that define data structures, flows, and integration patterns.
• Develop strategies for data acquisition, storage, archive, and recovery.
Data Modeling & Standards
• Define conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Establish data standards, governance policies, and nomenclature across the organization.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity through quality processes.
Systems Implementation & Optimization
• Evaluate and implement new data management technologies.
• Improve performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new components.
• Oversee migration of data from legacy systems to modern platforms.
Security, Compliance & Governance
• Ensure all data systems meet security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
• Define and enforce backup, recovery, and retention procedures.
• Protect enterprise data from unauthorized access and establish emergency recovery plans.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
• Work with IT, data engineers, management, and data scientists to align architecture with business goals.
• Partner with enterprise architecture teams to integrate data solutions.
• Educate and support staff members in data management best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of database structures, data modelling, and data warehousing.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and data integration platforms.
• Proficiency in SQL and understanding of system development lifecycle.
Professional Skills
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational abilities.
• Strong communication skills for working with technical and non‑technical teams.
• Ability to design large‑scale, secure, efficient data solutions.
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Typically 8+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, or database design roles.
