Job Description

Robots & Pencils is seeking a Data Architect to help build the data foundation of a modern, unified digital experience platform for a large multi-venue hospitality and entertainment organization.

You will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of scalable data pipelines, platform services, and integrations that power personalized guest journeys, real-time itinerary orchestration, and seamless cross-property experiences. This role requires close collaboration with architects, backend/front-end engineers, data engineers, and product teams to deliver complete, end-to-end product slices in a highly complex and high-visibility program.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Strategy & Orchestration

• End to End Solution Design: Lead the architectural design for "product slices" that span from frontend interfaces (React/Next.js) through the middleware layer to backend legacy systems.

• Guest Journey Logic: Architect the logic for real-time itinerary orchestration, ensuring data stays synchronized across all guest touchpoints (Mobile, Web, Kiosk).

• Headless Ecosystem Management: Design the integration patterns for a Headless CMS (Contentful) and a Customer Data Platform (CDP) to deliver dynamic, personalized content.

Integration & API Leadership

• API-Led Connectivity: Define the API strategy and middleware architecture using MuleSoft, acting as the primary bridge between modern apps and complex legacy/third-party systems.

• Contract Definition: Establish rigid data contracts and API specifications to ensure high-velocity collaboration between frontend and backend engineering teams.

• System Interoperability: Solve the challenges of integrating diverse third-party hospitality and entertainment vendors into a single, cohesive digital experience.

Technical Governance & Delivery

• Cloud-Native Standards: Guide the team in building scalable, observable, and secure services on cloud-native infrastructure (Azure/AWS).

• Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with Experience Designers to ensure technical architectures support high-fidelity user experiences.

• Quality & Iteration: Advocate for engineering fundamentals, including CI/CD automation, performance optimization, and architectural patterns that allow for rapid, iterative releases.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Solution Architecture or Systems Design for large-scale enterprise environments.

• Integration Expertise: Proven track record with MuleSoft (or similar ESB/Middleware) and building complex API layers.

• Modern Frontend/Backend Stack: Familiarity with the Vercel/Next.js ecosystem and how it interacts with Headless CMS (e.g., Contentful) and CDPs.

• Cloud-Native Proficiency: Deep understanding of cloud providers (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and serverless/containerized microservices.

• Data Fluency: Experience with both RDBMS and NoSQL, specifically in the context of high-concurrency, real-time event processing.

• English: Upper-Intermediate or higher (verbal and written).

• Industry Experience: Previous work in hospitality, travel, or multi-venue entertainment.

• Event-Driven Architecture: Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or cloud-native event buses for real-time state management.

• Platform Mentality: Experience building "internal developer paths" or standardized integration frameworks.
