Job Description

Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland

The University of Auckland is Aotearoa’s leading university with 9,000 staff supporting more than 46,000 students to achieve their ambitions. As one of New Zealand’s most enduring brands, the University leads the way in teaching excellence and research positively impacting the lives of its people, communities and society at large.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

12-Month fixed-term opportunity

As Data & Information Lead, you will play a critical role in the University of Auckland’s multi‑year Finance Transformation Programme, one of the most significant change initiatives currently underway in the organisation. This programme is reshaping finance from a largely transactional function into a strategic, insight‑driven partner, enabled by a new finance platform, redesigned processes, and a modern operating model.

In this role, you will define and deliver the data strategy, governance framework, migration approach, and technical architecture that underpin the programme’s data workstream. You will lead data migration from legacy systems through to post‑go‑live operations, ensuring data integrity, quality, security, and long‑term fitness for purpose. Working across finance, technology, and programme teams, you will enable trusted data for reporting, analytics, and decision‑making, while embedding strong data ownership and stewardship practices.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading data strategy, governance, and ownership models across finance systems and business domains.
• Designing and executing large‑scale finance data migration, including mapping, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and cutover readiness.
• Defining target‑state finance data models and master data structures (e.g. chart of accounts, projects, employees).
• Ensuring data quality, security, and compliance throughout the programme lifecycle and into business‑as‑usual operations.
• Partnering with business, technology, and integration teams to ensure data integrity across interfaces and reporting solutions.
• Supporting testing phases (SIT, UAT), defect resolution, and post‑implementation data stability.

This is a 12-Month fixed term, full-time role (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) with a salary range of $165,000 - $171,000 per annum, depending on experience.

• Hands‑on expertise in finance data mapping, modelling, cleansing, and reconciliation, with a strong eye for detail and data integrity.
• Experience working through full programme lifecycles, including testing, cutover, and post‑go‑live stabilisation.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the credibility to work across finance, IT, integration, analytics, and programme delivery teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex data concepts for technical and non‑technical audiences.
