POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a CWB Structural Steel Welding Supervisor to join our Welding team. This role plays a critical part in overseeing structural welding operations, ensuring all activities meet quality, safety, production, and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong leadership experience, deep technical welding expertise, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
WORK SCHEDULE
Morning Shift; Monday – Thursday, 6am – 3:30pm & Friday, 6am – 2:30pm
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily welding activities and personnel
Lead, mentor, and manage welders, including training, performance management, and discipline
Conduct CWB welder testing and ensure certifications remain current
Interpret structural drawings and issue controlled drawings to the shop floor
Prepare RFIs and provide red-lined drawings to Engineering as required
Ensure compliance with approved WPS and proper use of tools, fixtures, and consumables
Monitor material kits and assign work efficiently
Enforce 5S standards, cleanliness, and organization in the welding area
Minimize rework through training, setup optimization, and process control
Enforce all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment
Ensure compliance with CSA, CWB, AWS, and applicable welding codes
Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and code compliance
Liaise with CWB representatives and client inspectors
Maintain welding equipment, tools, and fixtures
Assist in developing and qualifying new welding procedures (WPS)
Maintain accurate records of welding activities and inspections
Investigate and resolve welding issues and non-conformances
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Background / Certifications
Current CWB Structural Steel Welding Supervisor Certification (required)
CWB Level 1 (or higher) Welding Inspection Certification (asset)
Experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a CWB-certified structural welder (FCAW & SMAW, S-Class, all positions)
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a structural fitter (may overlap with welding experience)
Proven experience in a welding supervisory or lead role
Technical Skills
Strong ability to read and interpret structural and fabrication drawings
In-depth knowledge of structural steel welding processes, techniques, and equipment
Experience troubleshooting welding machines
Strong understanding of fixturing, heat shaping, weld defects, and corrective actions
Working knowledge of CSA W59, W47.1, and applicable AWS standards
