Customs Documentation Clerk
Reports to: Broker Coordinator
Purpose
Perform the process of preparing documents for customs clearance and submission at the appropriate time. Handle and coordinate freight consignment activities efficiently according to standard operating procedures and customer requirements to maximize productivity/customer satisfaction and provide support to the forwarding and brokerage lead.
Functions
• Verify the tariff classification in the customs files.
• Maintain an updated internal clearance log.
• Comply with full customs laws and local laws prior, during, and after the clearing process.
• Coordinate with airline/shipping line/supplier/contractor contact to ensure smooth shipment handling and compliance with standard operating procedures/customer requirements.
• Create the customs documentation and publish it on the web server.
• Request payments of duties and other taxes from finance.
• Complete and submit all manifests for shipments.
• Monitor shipment status and update company systems (e.g., Ops log & Cargo Wise) as per business rules.
• Follow up with the shipping company on arrival notices.
• Submit documents for exports
• Follow up with the customs broker to obtain updated information on shipments being cleared.
• Provide support in the physical dispatch of shipments when necessary.
• Delivery of shipments to customers as per standard operating procedures/customer requirements
• Apply for the permits required by customs.
• Vet invoices submitted by customers.
• Assist with delivery orders in PCS (Port Community System).
• Detect and report non-conformities to create opportunities to improve in your area.
Requirements
Academic Level Minimum requirement Bachelor
Tech Savy
Experience 1 year of relevant experience in similar positions
Advance in MS Office
Basic knowledge in AFR- & OFR operations, i.e., handling, documentation, and customs clearance
